Why? My experience is you’re more likely to lose or misplace something in the field than have it stolen. No chance I’m wearing a money belt under my clothes, and I’ve traveled with multiple times the $10k limit in cash on more than one hunt. It remained in my room with zero issues.

Maybe it’s because I’m selective of who I hunt with outfitter wise AND hunt more secluded wild places in Africa but if my cash walks there’s only so many people who had access to it and so many places for them to go. If the trackers can distinguish between different buffalo tracks in the same herd, they can do the same with the footprints coming out of my tent.
 
Folks,

When you find the best time to hunt might be October in the Luangwa Valley I promise you won't want to be hunting with anything wrapped around your waist and under your shirt. It will be very hot! I don't think sweat will do much for your passport either.

Neither does taking a swim with it. For 8 years after this they had to type in my passport number at airlines and customs as scanning it no longer worked. :ROFLMAO:

I like to pack in a hard sided, lockable pistol case in my luggage. It's kind of like a portable safe- use a set of masterlocks on it and it at least deters theft. Plus if it fits in your carry-on, it's good for binos and other "breakables" when packed properly. Multi-use throughout the trip.

*edit to add: I usually only do this if I do not take guns and use camp rentals. If I have my rifle case, it becomes the "safe."

Now, school the people on what they NEED to survive in LV! (Water, mass-shootings, typical casino-town corruption, urban/suburban clusterfuck, antibiotic prep, et. al.! With 30 posts within a birth cycle, that's your wheelhouse!) ;) "Tell it like it IS!" -Unk (there are far too many who have been there MANY times and KNOW!) lol GL IOW: You might've missed a few things...from US in the KNOW. Nobody tells experienced, intelligent people what to do. No one. But, the post was amusing! (and that counts) The others above have pointed out a few additional things much needed...TY!

After hunting 9 different African countries over 30 years, I've come to the conclusion that less is more.

All you need is:

Rifle
Ammo in a buttstock carrier. You can't forget your extra ammo that way.
Binos. Small
Toilet paper (can be very important just ask me)
Pocket camera but these days your phone will suffice
Pocket knife and multi tool
Sunglasses

The only caveat might be if you are using a double an ammo belt worn in the front is a good idea. it's completely unnecessary with a bolt rifle.

Make sure the crew is carrying water for you, but you don't need to.

And good God you don't need to carry a backpack.

Also "Safari Clothes" are not necessary. Anything cotton in gray/green will be fine. Long sleeves and long pants are my recommendation.

Remember you are there to hunt not do a fashion shoot for Cabela's.

Your list pretty much matches what I carry when leaving the truck, except that I carry extra cartridges in a leather ammo holder on my belt and one extra in each front pocket of my shorts or pants. I just use my iPhone for pictures. And I seldom carry a knife or multi-tool.

Gun, bullets, ass wipe…. Good to go!
 
This is a few years back now, but had read how they appreciated new usd in country as supply was limited.

So without asking I bought as much as I could, staying under the 10k rule during flying to claim.

It was just for tips and alittle of the trophy fees. Settled up with wire transfer when I got home. But I remember Buzz saying at that time I could have left it in their safe back in Harare. He didn't know I had it till end of hunt, I had only hide it in my luggage. Not the smartest but was my first trip so didn't know.
 
when I leave the truck, I put on my hunting belt that has a knife and four extra rounds. The times I was quite a distance away from the truck with my kill; and several were taken at dusk, the PH has either the tracker or skinner retrieve the truck.
 
My loadout is quite basic but works for me. Rifle with sling, 20 rounds of ammo in 2 ten round belt slides and a 5 round wallet in my pocket. Sunglasses, hat, binoculars, Garmin Inreach, mobile phone for camera, Leatherman Wave, spare contact lenses and a small steel mirror in a tiny pouch on my belt in case I need to change my lenses. Reading glasses in top shirt pocket. In my rucksack in the vehicle are spare ammo, bug spray, sunscreen and a spare hat.

If they have to they have the very large camp manager do the questioning.

Evidently a few years ago one waiter did take a ring that was left laying out in a tent. He just got out of jail and his description of the experience is quite a deterrent.

Make sure the suspect is properly mirandized by the "Very large camp manager" before questioning!
 
I will carry my loaded rifle, binoculars on a sling, small Victorinox folder and a Surefire.

The rest stays in a packpak in the Bakkie.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
