Ordered my LAST African Safari rifle at DSC this year...

Nope. I have been charged by elephants in the past. I can't take the chance of doubling. The righty offset trigger is a big deal braker for me.
They attacked you, but you had another weapon then. Elephants don't attack those who hunt them with Rigby :)

So why would you take this rifle if you think this trigger arrangement makes that possible?

That is a personal safety issue and will be an irritating reminder every time you look at it while out hunting.

Leave the frustration at home.

Take something else that will make you smile and be happy using it.

Murphy's law - anything that can go wrong will.

Jeff's (me) view, Murphy was an optimist.

So sorry for the frustration you going through Tanks.

Props to Rigby for the impeccable response to fixing the mistake.

Sadly these issues are not uncommon . I personally know of English double rifles owned by the same guy which had terrible quality problems from the get go . On the first the rib on a brand new double rifle became loose within months . The second rifle couldn’t put 2 bullets anywhere near each other - not a regulation problem , rather 2 different twist rates in the barrels . The third had a significantly over bore barrel . The bullets wouldn’t stabilise . Seriously you couldn’t make this stuff up . I hope my 500NE Shikari doesn’t come with any issues . I expect it in the next 2 or 3 months .
Sadly, you are correct. I have heard of more screw ups with custom or bespoke guns and other items than is acceptable. Unfortunately it happens.

I order a 5 figure rifle from a well known maker a few years back and when received was very disappointing. Thankfully the maker bought the rifle back with no hesitation.

I just talked to Jerome, it does not seem to be that simple to fix it as they'd need to replace the mechanism and then re-regulate both barrels to boot. He mentioned 2.5 to 3 months for the fix at the shop.

However, Marc Newton, the general manager, whom I had reached out to during his vacation had a better idea.

Rigby will build me a new Shikari rifle exactly as specified. I will keep using this one until the other one is ready and then do a swap. This way I am not without a rifle.
Great to hear and would not expect or expect anything less.

Everyone makes mistakes. The key is to look at it as an opportunity to learn and make the proper adjustments. If done correctly, a silver lining could be found in the form of new customers.

@Tanks - Hope it all works out for you.
Yes everyone makes mistakes. For me I judge companies and individuals based on how they react to their mistakes. This is a make or break.

I am not making excuses for them. but I suspect over a single malt and late in the evening, Marc would admit the immediate demand for the rifle surprised them. Even companies with long established supply chains and dedicated expandable workforce can be hammered by unanticipated backlog. Unlike code writers and wrench turners, skilled craftsmen in an arcane product can be tough to find to address a surge requirement. Mistakes inevitably happen. The one positive is that Marc has taken quick decisive action to make it right while inconveniencing @Tanks in the least way possible.
Agreed, but we all have limitations. I have had to say no and turn away business because I did not have the time, manpower or resources to properly dedicate to it. At the time I regretted turning away the business, but in the long run it was the best decision for the clients and me. I also learned the hard way years ago when I did not take my fathers advice and took on to much. Thankfully everyone stepped up and completed the job and also created a great friendship and repeat client.

First, I am going after buffalo not elephant and definitely not elephant cows. Second, I am 2 weeks from wheels up too late to change firearms restrictions.

I am also spending a bit more of a range time with the rifle to make sure I am used to it.

I mean that’s honestly better than what many makers would suggest. It would also give them a great demo rifle down the road to have available at shows and the like…or marketable pre-owned for a right-handed shooter who adores CCH. Admit, when I was talking to Jerome about possibly ordering, it would have absolutely been a CCH frame and furniture…just scroll vs game engraving.

If they are able to mix it into workload so you don’t have another multi-year wait, cover shipping and logistics of the importation for a equal swap to avoid you suffering additional excise and tariff, it seems a smart, reasonable, good faith offer to resolve their mistakes…and hopefully time to sort how they happened in the first place.

Rigby can’t snap fingers and make it 100% right and refund doesn’t put a dream double in hand, or easily replace the one sold…so full use of a six-figure double while they build yours RIGHT…well, left.::seems like a genuine attempt to make you whole and take care of a client to the extent possible.

Well, maybe some swag and complimentary upgrades on that 9.3x62 in the works.

Best solution would be, after they delivered the new rifle, to do a raffle exclusively for AH members with the rifle you now have.

Just saying.

I know that’s a joke. But a raffle with the ticket money going to the conservation organization of Tank’s choice would actually be a great solution.

It's half a joke and the rest is wishful thinking to be honest :ROFLMAO:

Uh no? They are a business not a charity or NGO. Marc has offered a very practical solution to resolving this mistake. That rifle will get a lot of attention at SCI and DSC, or will be a real find for a right hander off the rack. Also, I think you had it right the first time - I would not expect anything less from him or Rigby.

@Tanks just out of curiosity did they give you an ETA for your new rifle? Hopefully sooner rather than later. Months would be better than years, but that my be a very unrealistic time frame.

What a frustrating experience.

I know they aren’t an NGO but businesses do things like that all the time. I don’t know about in the UK but in the US the business could get a tax benefit from handling it that way. It is an option they could employ if they choose not to sell the gun.

The solution of providing a new gun is obviously the right one. The question is what to do with what will be a used gun once he has the replacement. There are a variety of options.

Anime Slayer APK is honestly one of the best anime apps I’ve ever used. It’s packed with a massive collection of both popular and underrated titles, and everything streams smoothly without interruptions. I appreciate how well it runs even on mid-range Android devices.

Between Blak Rock and Pocahontas, I did not want to say that on the forum. That's a nice Cat!
