270 grain Barnes LRX (375 H&H) for Buffalo??

Not all wrong. The only time in my life I wished I had more gun was shooting kudu and orxy with a 7mm rem mag and an eland with a 300 win may. They died fine. Just lived longer aftet I shot them than I am used to and ran farther than I was used to from deer hunting.

This is an old thread I know, I found it this morning while doing a Google search for 270gr LRX loads for my Guide gun. Looks like I will be at 2800mv. I will be hunting free range Nilgai Jan 2027. I know that this is more than needed for Nilgai but I wanted to see how the LRX worked on Buffalo and besides, I want to make a trip to Africa in the next 2 years.
Thanks

I have heard time and again that a 350gr hits a buff like a 416, I am loading 350 gr Woodlieghs for my buff and 260gr Nosler Accubond for the plains game. Sight in the 260s about 2 high at 100 and your 350 will be very close to dead on at 100, because you don't shoot buff out farther than that.

That will lay the smack down on some Nilgai.

Who are you hunting with?

I use the 2 scope method I learned reading Dr Robertson’s books. A 1-6x for DG and a 2-12x for PG. Both on QR mounts. Works well for my purposes.
I’ve been thinking this way. I have a nice Leupold 3-15x44 I will probably use for PG and likely will get a 1-6X for DG and put them both on QR.

or just get a 2-10 or a swaro 1.7-10 and keep it simple.

KISS is a good method to live buy when traveling and hunting abroad.

The hole switching scopes mid hunt seems to be a overly complicated and unnecessary arrangement

<snip> because you don't shoot buff out farther than that.
That's what they say, but I recently had a near opportunity at about 115 yards that didn't come to pass because of visual obstruction. Try to be ready for any situation within reason.

I used a 2-12 Leupold a month ago. Thought it worked great. The buffs were in the savannah - largely grasslands with a few trees. I shot mine at 140 yards. A close as we could get. Too many eyes in the herd watching us. The fire dot was great against the black buff and the CDS worked great.

416 400gr TSX. First shot was full frontal, dead center of heart. Bullet traveled 5 ft and stopped under the skin on the other end of buff. He stopped and wavered on his feet 100 yards away and I shot him rear quartering for the front right shoulder. He was dead on his feet but did not want to admit it. 2nd shot was unnecessary, but it was sure satisfying seeing him drop at the shot. Did not want him going any further. 180 yards. Bullet traveled 5 ft all the way thru the buff and stopped under the skin after going thru the off shoulder. He dropped. In looking at the bullets, TSX does not look much different from a solid.

Before I went I also thought I would be shooting at less than 100 yards. Glad I practiced further and knew the ballistics.

I shot a fair number of plains game with a 338 ttsx - expansion was significantly greater. I think the LRX is a little softer than a TTSX.

Based on my admittedly limited experience of 1 buff, I will always use the TSX. Already scheduled for 3 buffs next year. Like a Lays potato chip. Cant shoot just 1.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
