Is a safari compatible with a trip to Egypt?

I’ve never hunted Africa, I badly want to and my wife is coming around to the idea. She has always wanted to see the pyramids and experience Egypt. I would like for her to have the opportunity to see and do the things she wants to do.

I am certain it would be very difficult to bring my own rifles on this trip, which is ok.

Are these two experiences compatible on the same trip? Let me know your thoughts.
 
How much time do you have? Cairo is halfway to SA and a hell of a lot closer to Uganda or Zambia
 
Certainly, if you rent rifles from the outfitter. It can be done even for dangerous game but particularly for PG. Just check out the outfitter really well per the info. on this site, pics of the rifles, bullets, scopes, etc... Cheers
 
I did it in 2022 on accident so I would say its definitely doable. Hunted in limpopo, rented gun. Get to airport and my flight out was canceled. Had the option to fly Johannesburg to Cairo then to usa. With 20 hr layover in Cairo. So I took that option. Booked a tour to see pyramids, spinx, and the Cairo muesum with airport pick up. Had a great time. When I got back to airport from tour my flight to usa got canceled took a flight to Greece with a 10 hr layover. Went and say the acropolis in Athens. Then my flght to usa was delayed 6 hours. Ended up getting a $1200 voucher and $600 refund check for all the hassles. Only time I have ever got.paid to go on one day vacations. FYI the security guards in Cairo dont link binos in your carry ons......
 
It’s possible but may not be advantageous. I travel extensively to Egypt, 2 times or more a year for the last several years. One thing I would be concerned about is hunting gear in your bags, carryon or checked. Egypt is very security conscious and things like drones, professional cameras, satellite phones, binoculars, camo, knives, etc… are all going to cause huge issues at the airport. Most likely they will confiscated and held at the airport and good luck getting them back. There’s even a chance you could be denied entry, it’s happened to several travel bloggers in recent years and that’s not even with hunting gear just camera equipment.

There’s not really a flight routing through Cairo to get to South Africa so it’s not really a layover option outside of a fluke.

I love Egypt and highly recommend a visit, truly amazing and life changing but probably best being its own trip in my opinion. That’s said it is technically possible,
 
Gives a rough idea of flight routes internally in Africa....also gives you a better idea of the distances you are looking at......not something I could be bothered trying to do.....do Egypt...then do a hunt at a later date....save yourself a bucket load of stress

honestly, why not?
people from SA travel to egypt all the time
so just choose egypt first, or hunt first
may be easier when u do these kinds of combo trips to use a travel agent
happy to help on the hunt part
 
Great idea! I would go to Egypt first, followed by the hunt.
 
If I had the time and money, I would do that in a heartbeat!

@John the Electrician the distances between safari-country and Egypt are very significant. Roughly the same as asking if you can do a Saskatchewan deer hunt and tie-on a few days in Cancun.

Beyond the distances, you have the airline issues. There are not many airlines that fly you into safariland and they may not be the same airlines, or the same routes that get you to Egypt. It could mean something absurd like flying Dubai to Cairo, then Cairo back the wrong way to Dubai, then flying to Jo'burg, Lusaka, or Harare. You'd feel like a yo-yo.

A better plan would be to do a tourism trip to Capetown (wine country) or Vic Falls as part of a tie-on to a safari, you're within 2 hours via 737 to these places from most of the safari destinations.
 
Dulles to Cairo, just over 11 hours, one way $451 each on Turkish. Do momma's thing then Qatar to, say Harare, 15 hr, $371. Then back to Dulles on Qatar $723. The prices are each, about 2 weeks out. So sure, why not??? It is just a cost of the hunt!!! If you sort through flights and times and destinations I bet you can beat my 5 minutes of internet on money and time.
 
Yes, it’s certainly doable. My suggestion would be BA to Heathrow to Cairo. I would suggest staying at Giza to beat the day trip crowds. Uber works every well in Cairo and you don’t get ripped off.

If you want the whole experience, from Cairo fly to Aswan & Abu Simbel and Egypt Air has a free bus that will take to you to Abu Simbel. From Aswan you have the choice of a Nile cruise to Luxor or the train. The train is an experience. A couple of days in Luxor, fly back to Cairo and then a flight to Southern Africa. If the times are right you could get a nice long layover and see Addis or Nairobi. Nice easy BA flight back to Heathrow from JNB or Qatar and home.

The flight from Cairo to Abu Simbel on Egypt Air has to be booked on the Egyptian Website and not the USA website. You can set the language to English on the Egyptian Website.

This thread reminded me of the old BOAC route. I think the plane was an De Havilland Comet. Athens-Cairo-Khartoum-Nairobi-Dar es Salaam(my termination). I think the rest of the route was Salsbury-Johannesburg-Cape Town. Lusaka may have been on the route as well. If my memory is correct total trip was about a week. Unfortunately we are 50 years too late to relive this adventure.

IMO, splurge, take the wife. See Cairo and use a camp rifle.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
