US State and Commerce Departments Announce Changes in Suppressor Regulations

A US District Court in Texas just ruled today that the NFA should not apply to suppressors, short barreled rifles, and short barreled shotguns since the tax was set to zero in the One Big Beautiful Bill. Congress based the NFA as it relates to these items on its taxing power and without a tax there is no Constitutional power with which to regulate them.

Anyone know how this will effect those states that don’t presently allow suppressors?

The way I read it, the judge only ruled for the plaintiffs in this case as he didn't want to overstep his authority and rule it nation wide. So, according to the judge, the 15 states and various businesses and organizations that brought the suit do not have to comply with the registration process.
It will be interesting to see if the DOJ appeals this.

It will also be interesting to see what the near term holds and whether or not I can just go down and purchase a suppressor in my state without paperwork.

or make a purchase in another country and bring it home

My wife and I are trying to get out of IL as well, this state is awful when it comes to 2nd amendment rights and property taxes.
Yep. not much reason to stay in my opinion!

I dont think the current DOJ will appeal.. but some other court I am sure is already trying to get creative and create some sort of blocking mechanism.. or some anti 2A group will file something in a liberal court (9th cicuit) that blocks or reverses the decision in an attempt to get the USSC to have to intervene..

Which HOPEFULLY would ultimately kill NFA once the current USSC gets ahold of it... athough Im sure it will create a mess in the interim...

Assuming the final decision is suppressors are not regulated by the ATF (or anyone else) any longer.. It will definitely have some sort of impact on the industry.. theres already a movement to produce "affordable" cans now.. and there are some very good basic options out there in the $300-$400 range for centerfire and some $200-$250 rim fire options as well.. open this up to the world though and let European and South African manufacturers compete for the huge US marketspace and Im betting we start seeing sub $250 centerfire and sub $150 rimfire cans show up... that might not be "tactical" or full auto rated... but be perfectly suited for hunting and casual range use...

I can't wait to move out of Illinois. Maybe one day soon ill get to own one of these magical devices.
That makes 2 of us (well 3 counting my wife). Been here 6 years on a work project that ends next year. We are looking to move back to Pennsylvania and looking forward to the day I can buy an AR, suppressor, pistol with a threaded barrel and extended mags. It really is the Peoples Republic of Illinois.

Anime Slayer APK is honestly one of the best anime apps I’ve ever used. It’s packed with a massive collection of both popular and underrated titles, and everything streams smoothly without interruptions. I appreciate how well it runs even on mid-range Android devices.
