Id start with hey honey this means alot to me I want to buy it. And discuss from there.
If its going to be a financial problem then probably focus elsewhere till your in a better spot.

I think regardless of exp level everyone can agree the foundation of a relationship is trust and respect. If you erode those two things you will eventually get your relationship in a bad way..
Example hes been lying about big purchases wbat else is he hiding. Thats not the direction you want a womans thoughts to stsrt pondering.

Personally any expense over 500 thats not routine business I talk about with my wife. Its never an issue because we both make smart desicions and trust each other to do so.

If you want something like that tell your wife and start putting a set amount towards it be it 500 a mo or 5000 ect. Will go over alot better and you can build your slush fund for when that good deal presents itself.

Obviously the sarcasm was not obvious enough - I dont hide things from my wife but it is fun to joke around about it with my fellow key board warriors. Been married for 16 years so I know how the game is played

I’m not married so it’s not something I need to worry about. Same with booking hunts.

I do however keep a separate Hunting/Gun account generating higher interest and put a percentage of each paycheck and commission check in it for my big purchases and trips.

I generally start by showing my woman pictures of it, talk about how rare it is, talk about the level of craftsmanship that goes into it, and have her admire the beauty of it. Then if she approves, she just asks if I’m going to buy it. I don’t even need to ask, she just admires what I show her, and if it’s a dumb choice (sometimes I am dumb and want to buy things I shouldn’t) she says “maybe when we get ____ fixed or after we get a new ____ (something that is wearing out like washer or car or whatever) and get some more funds we can see if it’s still available or if there’s another one like it.”
 
I thought you would enjoy this funny (not at the time I was caught) true story. I went snow goose hunting in Canada as you know they can be like locusts they are so numerous. I shot one and wanted to get a mount for my wall but knew my wife at the time would not permit it. So my hunting buddy told me to call her and tell her I had killed a rare albino goose…he said guaranteed she would let me get it mounted. Well it worked, on my wall looking great until new neighbors moved in and we had them over for dinner. Emily the new neighbor says “that’s a nice snow goose on your wall”. My wife then informs her it is a rare albino goose…it took me three months to get over the beating !!!

Its a fairly odd rifle. By the design and engraving pattern, it looks modern. I do not know who owned the trade name "Rigby" when this particular rifle was manufactured, but its not my kinda rifle. It was built to be art, not a practical piece of functional art as evidenced by the engraved steel butt plate.

But commissioned by a well known top end collector and owned by another. I doubt either would have put money into it if it wasn’t a pretty fantastic example of gunmakers art.
 
Hunt is one of the best and top engravers. He was brought into Rigby during the Roberts era I believe. No retired but 60 years of best guns engraving.

Yes he did a lot of fantastic top end English shotguns.

He’s retired but designed a line of jewelry based on some of his gun engravings that is really beautiful.
