That one is not particularly rare, but they don’t make it currently as far as I know, so you’re at the mercy of when someone else decides it’s time to sell. And for me, those things pop onto the market whenever I don’t have spare money.

For example currently I’m saving up money for a custom build in 25-300 Norma mag improved (yeah yeah unnecessary, but it’s fun) which as you can expect is not a common chambering, less than 50 rifles in that wildcat currently exist.. and got reached out to by a guy who knows I’m saving up for one and offered to sell it to me for significant discount. Despite the deal, I could not purchase as I simply don’t have the funds at the moment.

Same with me wanting a ruger african or bush rifle in 35 Whelen. There seems to be a million 9.3x62’s floating around, but when I had funds a few months ago, not a single 35 Whelen on the market. When I didn’t have funds, there was a ton on the market.
 
I feel your pain Rifleman97...I have 2 kids in college at the moment and my fun money has all ran out. I have a super accurate CZ in 22 Hornet which makes purchasing the Ruger even harder to justify. And it is rare in this configuration. Lipseys did a very small batch and they sold out quickly. They are usually $1k more than that on Gunbroker when they pop up.

You know Holts is in England right? The estimate is in £ not $. This means at £3000 it’s already over 4000USD and at £5000 it’s almost 7000USD. All of that is before any processing fees, VAT, shipping, customs importation, and tariffs.

Good deals can be had on foreign auctions BUT you better be familiar with the process and additional costs after the hammer drops. I’ve bought a fair number of guns from Holts over the years but the “deals” ended 3-4 years ago. I also used to make sure I had the guns looked at in person on their viewing day before bidding. Not knocking them, but Holts does a good job at hiding imperfections.

They don’t make the M03 takedowns any more so new today isn’t a thing. If i remember right MSRP was around $3,000 here in the states. Not sure what a 2 barrel set would go for but on other combos 20-40% for a second barrel is pretty common. You’ve also got optics on it to account for.

From what I can find for US Sales History on auctions and old listings over the last couple years, single barrel M03’s are commonly selling for $1500 or so.

Exactly. My wife's health is not doing well right now (pretty severe complications from a routine surgery, on top of other health issues) so I feel your pain in the money department. They have an AI auto denying claims and its a pain in the rear to try and get a human on the phone. But as to the rifle, I've literally never seen another one in 22 hornet with the iron sights (african model). I've seen quite a few 22 hornets, but usually just the plain jane Hawkeye with no irons. 22 hornet is the 3rd from the top of the list for next gun build/purchases for me, I don't have a single rifle under 25 cal at the moment other than a cheap AR I was given that isn't reliable and doesn't even shoot sub 5moa. (I literally don't even have a 22lr at this time) so justifying the cartridge is easy, but the money? Not so much.
 
I have a freind that is one more sitatunga away from his SCI African Diamond award. He has shot everything the continent offers.

He uses a custom rifle based on a model 700 action. (Push feed) a man of means and he uses one of the most economical rifle choices available. Go figure

I think he is slightly over 100 African species but told me yesterday he needs “another” sitatunga. We kept spinning off on different conversations, and I never learned what he meant by another Sitatunge.

He struggles getting all the species because he gets caught up in Hunting favorites like bongo and Lord Derby Eland.

Probably the Sesse Island Sitatunga, hardest one to get.
 
@Mark A Ouellette and I have this conversation all the time. The gentleman I am referring to that uses a very basic push feed fits into the “type” that doesn’t put any value in the cost or romance of the brand or style of firearm. But chooses to emphasize the hunt.

Some hunt to justify their love of firearms. Others prefer one basic rifle to hunt everything. And most a mix of both.
