I have a 30-378 wby I would be willing let go!The 300 Win Mag looks nice on paper because it’s supposed to fit in a 30-06 length action, but it really doesn’t. So if I am going to use a true long/magnum action, I’d rather have the 300 H&H.
BUT, I could be convinced to slum a 30-338 in a 30-06 length action.
As for dying cartridges, the 338 Win Mag is my pick. Every year, fewer rifles are offered in the 338. I prefer it over the 300 Win Mag because it can breathe a little in a 30-06 length action and I prefer the bigger frontal area for my shooting distances (300 yards or less).
I saw a little video made by someone , they spoke about when the Marines embassy detachment in Peking held out against the boxers with the allies until relived .6mm U.S. Navy, 112 grain FMJ bullet, 2,500 Feet Per Second @50 feet*. Penetrated 60 7/8 inch Pine Boards, placed 15 Feet from the Muzzle. The 112 grain SP bullet penetrated 12 boards.

Sometimes I think the Boxer rebellion was first modern situation to think about a unity cartridge .It is always remarkable that a relatively few determined men, with accurate rifle fire can significantly change the course of history.
