1st african animal

Just got my 1st african animal ever the evening of day 1, a blesbok at about 40 yards with my 30-378 wby shooting 199gr hammer stone hammers, the bull went straight down with the shot. Talk about a whirlwind of emotions as I had dreamed of this day ever since I learned to read.View attachment 774659

Congrats!
I know exactly what you are talking about
I still remember my first african animal, like it was yesterday.
Mine was oryx!

The gemsbok was by far my most favorite animal of the safari even though picking my favorite animal is like picking a favorite child lol. The gemsbok was my main animal of the safari and I had been dreaming of hunting one since I was a little boy dreaming of africa. I still remember every time the ph would tell me we where stalking gemsbok I would immediately get buck fever and my heart would start to race lol thats probably why I missed one earlier in the hunt.

Congratulations!

A blesbok was my first as well.

My first African animal was a blesbok too, on my birthday, many years ago. It was an old, old thing with horns worn down and teeth worn down even more. It's the sort of trophy I would appreciate more now than then.

Congrats on what sounds like a great hunt!

Congratulations — and what a way to start! A blesbok on the evening of day one is a fine first African animal, and putting him straight down at 40 yards is exactly how you want to open the account. I've watched a lot of hunters take that first one over the years, and it never loses its magic — that mix of a lifetime's dreaming finally coming true, all in a single moment. Fair warning, though: it's the first of many. Africa has a way of getting under your skin and not letting go. Enjoy every second of this trip — congratulations again. Cheers, Chris

Congrats!!!!! Good luck on many more...

Congratulations on your first! I’ve had trouble with the blesboks for some reason. I missed the first one I ever saw then hit him poorly a couple times before I got him down. Then years later I missed a chip shot at one on camera. I just got the mount back last week and I like it much more than I thought I would.
Great ram, keep up the good work!
Wow, good for you, I'm glad to see you are fulfilling your dreams!

Thank you all! It was such an awesome experience we are starting the planning process to potentially head back over in 28 for some more plains game and once I retire in 31 we are going to head after cape buffalo in Mozambique

Sounds like a great hunt and definitely some great memories! I may have missed it but what outfitter did you hunt with?

Congratulations. Very nice. My first African animal was a Blesbok also. Hopefully I’ll get the mount soon.

Congratulations! The gemsbok was my favorite animal on my first safari, although my first animal was just as important to me, a zebra. I can still see the sight picture in my mind and hugging my son and telling him, "I just shot a zebra in Africa!"
