I will be in the Eastern Cape of SA the 1st of July 2027 for 10-14 days of hunting. I tentatively have an outfitter picked out for some plains game hunting but no deposit yet. This is my 5th trip and having already taken a nice Eastern cape Kudu, I am looking for an Southern greater Kudu hunt if it's available in the Eastern Cape. I would also like to take a fallow deer on the same trip but that may be too late in the year to get a trophy?
Any recommendations on a concession that offers hunts for either or both of these animals would be appreciated.
If it's even possible?
I am willing to travel to a different concession for a few days just to hunt these animals if needed.
Thanks in advance!

Game4Africa is a supporter here and can offer greater kudu a couple hours drive from their main concession. Nathan Florian just posted a hunt with them and shot a nice bull there-you can find it in the hunt reports section-

Your outfitter should have no problem putting you on a Greater Kudu but they come at a premium in the East Cape.

If someone is offering a true greater kudu in eastern cape it’s because they brought in genetics from outside the area. Once it’s there, the differences in the hunt would be non-existent. It just becomes a kudu. You’re most likely flying through Johannesburg anyway. It would be better to find an PH/outfitter for a 3 day add on for greater kudu then continue your trip. The differences are pretty minimal and there is some overlap of characteristics in different regions. Greater kudu have more stripes and lighter gray with longer horns on average. Cape kudu should have less stripes, are darker, have brown socks, and shorter horns on average.

I have considered this option and will look further into it. I am taking some people with me and not all are going to want an additional stay. I may just go a few days early or after by myself. Thanks!

I'll research this. Thank you!
