I have a couple Mauser actions. One is G 33 40. Thinking I want 280 Ackley on it
This action has original military barrel and other than a adjustable trigger and curved safety it looks un molested. Don't know what lugs look like yet. Anyone have experience or opinions on sending Mauser actions out for heat treating to cover and hardness issues? Seems like a good idea to me. Definitely adds to the expense but may be cheap insurance

I think the hardness of the 33/40's are good. I've never had one re heat treated. You can have it rockwell tested but should be fine.

Nice action & nice caliber for it to I think.

I have done a couple on it’s father the VZ33 & still have one I’m messing with & was thinking of a 338/06 in that.

I think the heat treating will be fine but if it makes you feel better nothing to loss but a bit of money ?

I send a 1909 Argentine action to be heat treated. It warped an the receiver ended up snapping. So now I have an expensive paperweight.

Tell me more! Who did the work etc. I am learning as I go. The VZ 24 seems great. A well know gunsmith did the work and sent action for heat treatment. So far so good.

I won’t name the place where mine was heat treated, (somewhere out west) because they tried to do right and atleast didn’t charge for the heat treatment. But things happen during that process sometimes.

I have VZ 24 done by gunsmith and sent for heat treatment more or less on my request. It is 338 06 now. Shoots very well. Hope to kill Moose this fall. I plan to use CEB Maximus 200 gr. So far Varget gets them to 2750 safely in Starline 06 brass necked up. I attached a target using Varget and 200gr Speer Hotcore. I shoot these as the Maximus are too expensive to practice with. The rifle can do better than this. I have a new bag set up coming. Those CEBs are one holers if your hold is proper

Is that custom bolt release? My G 33 40 has standard 98 release. Someone but the Bueler style safety and canjar trigger on it. Still original barrel. Not drilled or tapped. Different bolt handle added

Watch those Buhler style safeties! I have seen several, including the one formerly on my 03A3 Springfield, that will release if the bolt handle is jiggled. If I switched shoulders and slung rifle on left side, the bolt handle could get caught in my jacket pocket and trip the safety off.

Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew
