I continue to consider a double rifle in the manner of an awkward teenaged boy staring at the object of his desire across the classroom. I don’t know if I will ever go to the prom, but it’s sure fun looking!

I am wondering about a double that has a set of rifle and shotgun barrels. Is that an option with a double? Is it confined to particular calibres or models?

I think many of the major makers offer this as an option, generally with a 20 gauge barrel set. If done as an add on to an existing double rifle it would generally require return to the factory for fitting. I believe, due to near zero tollerence manufacturing, Krieghoff can supply shotgun barrel sets for exisiting Krieghoff Classic Big Five without needing specialist fitting (but very expensive). Even Baikal used to offer a 12 gauge barrel set for their M94 Express O/U but it had to be a factory fit (and generally very limitted numbers exported.)

Interesting. Thank you

Heym will build you a set a 20ga barrels to go with your new rifle when you order one :A Big Hello:

20 ga is about perfect too.

Cool idea, but I'd want about 95% of the effort to go toward the rifle barrels.

You can often find Chapuis double rifles with a shotgun barrel set. They are excellent rifles and quite affordable, at least as far as double rifles go.

A few years ago I looked into having a set of rifle barrels made to fit a Winchester Model 21. The answer was that it COULD be done but the cost would exceed just buying a quality double rifle.

I have an H. Burgsmuller from the late 1800s that came with a set of 12 gauge barrels, and it was extremely cheap on gunbroker by double rifle standards. It was only around $1400 or so, probably due in part to the fact that the seller didn't know the chambering and I'm still not confident about what it is. Not knowing the official name of the cartridge isn't enough to keep me from using it though. I make ammo for it from cut down 444 marlin brass and .446" bullets and killed a hog with it last week.

There is a heym set for sale now on guninternational that has a 5 barrel set everything from .470 and 16 gauge shotgun to 9.3 and 6.5, even a combo 9.3 and 16 gauge. Costs almost as much as 5 separate bolt action guns and shotguns, but you could hunt the world out of one gun case. I'm hoping Blaser will come up with a shotgun barrel for an r8. (Edit) I just realized it's not a double set, but still a cool combination gun.

For the cost of the shotgun barrel you can have any of the high end shotguns (not talking about Purdey etc.). Also the action might be heavy compared to a shotgun action. A Royal Grulla would be cheaper.

There is a Suhl 9.3x74 with a set of 20 ga. barrels. On the big bore page of Facebook. He will sell it.

I am in no way vouching for this rifle and or its owner. I am merely passing along his contact info. He says it’s like new.
And wanted me to share his number.

It’s a very cool gun, but the calibre is not one I am looking for, unfortunately.

A bit of an impulse - in order to nudge my way towards a double rifle, I decided to pick up a shotgun with double triggers. My plan is to have my gunsmith set the chokes up for skeet and grouse (skeet & IC) and use this to train myself to shoot a double. I think of it as a gateway drug.

You definitely come across them online. If your hearts set on it, you will find the right combo.

My .450no2 was made from a Brno zp-49 12ga.

So both barrel sets work. Ron also made a 16ga combo with 9.3x74r double rifle. He was in Ontario.

Practice makes perfect!

Seen a few videos with commentary after the fact showing the hunter repeatedly pulling the first trigger before finally changing to 2nd trigger.
