Politics

I think you missed the point.

If you say Democrats are against this law because they tend to win states where this law is not in place, is it not equally true to say Republicans are for it because they tend to win states where it is in place? Same shit different party?

On the larger issue, my honest answer is "I don't know." A democracy is a challenging balancing act. The whole point of a democracy is to have as many citizens a possible participate in the elections. So you have to figure out the net impact of the law on voting to see if it is good policy or bad policy.

To make is simpler, if the law prevents 10 bogus votes from voting and only ends up stopping one legit voter from voting it is a good thing. If it prevents one vote from a bogus voter and stops 10 legitimate voters from voting it is a net loss. I don't know about the impact of these laws on US voter participation to have an informed opinion.

Now, just to end on a cautionary note, I would guess that it is much more likely that poor and poorly educated people find voter ID laws more of an obstacle than the well off and well educated. And I spend a lot of time worrying about how the poor and poorly educated are getting screwed in the modern world.
Democrats are opposed to voter ID because with that in place they can only vote once. I can understand their opposition, as the US is more and more turning away from liberal lunacy their congressional makeup would diminish. Since the Democrats have abandoned all things moral and decent the only thing left to perpetuate their anti-American view is fraud.

This is a politics thread on a gun forum buddy, of course they are. To many ppl here think Trump can do no wrong. No matter what he does. After years of criticizing every president and saying an Iran war is a terrible idea, he did exactly that. Every accusation is a confession with MAGA.

This is the same group of voters who demand everyone have their birth certificate to vote, but pitch a royal fit when they are asked for an ID to buy a gun, and pass a background check.
Oh, I found another one.

150 years ago good luck getting someone born in Oregon that now lives in Minnesota a birth certificate in a reasonable period of time.. not to mention that records werent great 150 years ago and some people were never issued birth certificates..
Yep. Just did a search on Ellis Island, found my grandfather and the ship he arrived on. Records are there.

Yes and tragic.

There is no doubt that our ATC system needs significant improvement.
Well that was a controller problem you donot clear a truck to cross runway with traffic on short final. crazy. guy must have been smoking something.

@mdwest, Dave you seem to be a troll magnet today. Non illegitmus carborundum

Bonus points for use of Latin and now you put that U2 song in my head.

I normally skip ahead from last page read to most current page, but MDWest was keeping me entertained... all the replies I was going to make have already been addressed. Saves me some keyboard time.

The states already remove suspected non-citizens, deceased people, and non-residents from their voter roles. They’ve been doing that for years. Once again, a solution in search of a problem.
You are absolutely wrong! Dem states maintain voter rolls with thousands of non-citizens on their voter rolls. I have proof. But those on the koolaid never let facts get in the way of their delusion. Dem states also throw people in prison for trying to investigate voting irregularities. Kings in black robes block investigations into voting irregularities.

I dont give a fuck as long as the Hormuz is opened and the world escape global economic meltdown.. ie as the rest of the world is conserned..

Otherwise I leave Trump to you..
I guess this is where we differ good sir. I’d love to see that straight closed for the next few months, or until the election in November even. I think $10 a gallon is exactly what we need to get rid of the Republicans in the house come fall. And remind the American people what an epic fucking shit show Republican administrations are. Trump is following the stereotypical Republican agenda to a T.
1. Cut taxes for the rich.
2. Cut services for the poor.
3. Start unnecessary war
4. Sink the economy and cause a recession.

On the plus side, the next step is for America to wake up and elect a Democrat to clean up the Republican mess again. Just a reminder folks, every recession for the last 45 years has been under a republican president.

Except the one under Biden, or was that when we changed the definition of a recession so that it didnt mean 2 consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth.

Washington state has had their gubernatorial race decided by less than 500 votes several times; a federal audit found that 1,200 illegals voted in those elections.

Local elections is where this is key and exactly why you see situations like Minnesota.
I believe that was Oregon, and it was 1259 illegals were REGISTERED to vote, out of those 1259, only 10 were found to have actually voted in the following election, as a state audit caught those beforehand. And before anyone says gotcha, some of those 10 ppl became citizens before the election. Which is why the SAVE ACT is pointless, as states already audit their own voter rolls and act accordingly.

Actually no, its 2 quarters of consecutive negative gdp growth, plus rising unemployment, plus the NBER looks at other factors before confirming it a recession…If it was a recession, it’s the only recession that I can think of where we added 470,000 jobs a month during it.

Once again full of bullshit.. cant substantiate your position.. so you just cry and point...

but lets see...

heres a report from the US Congressional Budget Office... $16.2B in Medicaid spending on illegals..

https://budget.house.gov/press-rele...pen-border-czar-harris?utm_source=copilot.com

FAIR reports $150-$182B on cash, welfare, and tax credits to illegals..

Heres congress funding $650M for housing for illegals... transferring the money from DHS...

shall we continue?
I think we shall continue. Thanks for finally posting your sources.

From the first sentence of your source..”Available reporting shows major disagreement about the size and distribution of public spending tied to unauthorized immigration in 2024”

So far so good.

Your $150 billion number is cited by FAIR, DOGE, and House Republicans. All right-wing organizations. Let’s read further down that link you sent to some less partisan organizations.

The CBO analysis for the additional surge in illegal immigration during the Biden administration actually has it as a net positive for the US to the tune of $897 billion over 10 years. Or roughly $90 billion per year in tax payments and increased economic output. Those prior FAIR/DOGE analyses seem to cite the taxes paid by immigrants, but don’t account for additional increases in economic output due to their labor.

Edit:
These sources also emphasize that large amounts of these tax dollars are from state and local sources, and not federal. If the state of California or the state of New York, or Los Angelas want to spend their hard earned tax dollars on illegal immigrants, then they are more than welcome to do so as far as I’m concerned.

Not great

There seem to be several cases where the democratic candidates now wins seats that was won by republican with two digits marginals in the general elections...wonder if these are just anomalies or a sign of what is to come in midterms?

So this is an anecdote. But it explains why we need to do something regarding voter registration.

When I turned 18 in high school, I registered for the draft, and I registered to vote. I mention the draft thing only because I know there is a government database where you can retrieve your registration number. I wonder how that affects proving citizenship? In any case, those were the Reagan years.

I moved away from that town/state when I was commissioned. I have not been back. Don't live there anymore. Don't want to live there. Have told them that.

My mother, until recently (within a few months) still lived there. When she voted, she would see my name on the registration rolls. At the time, in that state, when you voted, they looked up who you said you were, and you signed your name. Signature comparison was what they used for proof of ID. They still have those "registration books" and still use them.

I have told them I don't live there. My mother has told them I don't live there. I'm still registered there.

In that same place, jury summonses are based on voter registration records. I still receive summons. Rather, my mother received them at the house I left during the first Bush administration. They are returned marked "no longer lives here".

I wonder how many times "I" have voted in those elections. If someone wanted to unduly influence the election, it would not be difficult. It would be criminal, but not difficult.

So while I'm still not convinced the federal government should be involved, I am nowhere naive enough to believe there is not a problem.

  1. What is reportedly in Trump's 15-point peace plan?published at 07:56

We haven’t see the 15-point plan which President Trump says he has sent to Iran. There has been no official confirmation of what it may contain. But some details are being reported in the Israeli and US media.

Israel's Channel 12 reports that the plan includes the following demands:
    • The nuclear facilities at Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow will be taken out of use and destroyed
    • Transparency and oversight by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over activities in Iran
    • Iran will abandon the use of armed proxies in the region, and stop its funding and arming of regional affiliates
    • Dismantling of existing nuclear capabilities that have already been accumulated
    • A commitment to never strive to achieve nuclear weapons
    • No nuclear material will be enriched on Iranian soil, and all enriched material will be handed over to the IAEA
    • The Strait of Hormuz will remain open and constitute a "free maritime zone"
    • Iran's missiles will be subject to a future decision, but they would be limited in quantity and range, and only for self-defence purposes
What Iran receives under the plan:
    • American assistance in developing a civilian nuclear project in Bushehr for electricity production
    • Removal of all sanctions
    • Removal of the threat of renewing sanctions

There are also reports of a possible month-long ceasefire while discussions take place - but again, this remains unconfirmed, with no details given by the White House.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes

Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.
