I am a planner and have most of my hunts scheduled years in advance. I have safaris, group safaris, Ibex hunts, sheep hunts, all with dates set years in advance. Being a safari veteran I've always wished for a last minute deal where I just threw my stuff in my bag, grabbed my rifles and went! Well luck came my way last week! It started with a FB message from a videographer about a trophy elephant hunt in Zimbabwe. After a phone call on Monday March 9th to find out who the hunt was with and more info next thing I know I am on a call with Richie Schultz! He had a half price deal on a trophy bull hunt in Matetsi and I took it. The hunt had to be taken in April and my calendar for the first time ever had a gap there. I said I was in and Richie was happy to have me and even remembered speaking to me a few years ago when I asked a few PH's at SCI their opinions before buying my double. A good PH has a great memory in my experience!
Tuesday March 10th. I sent my dates to Patrick Wright at PWP Travel along with all of my rifle paperwork etc which was handy due to my upcoming August safari. I was lucky to have him find Delta Premium Select bulkhead seats for not too high of a price. Meanwhile I got my letter of invitation from Richie and PWP booked my Airlink to Victoria Falls and City Lodge at JNB and what do you know I was fully booked in 24 hours! Wheels up April 15th.
I normally wait until after the safari to post but I thought I'd take y'all along on the journey since this is such an unusual situation for me.

As a planner too, I understand the years in advance (this year, Next year and year after) mind set.
 
Watching with interest. This seems like a good plan especially for Elephant hunts. I plan on doing something similar in 2028. I normally have hunts booked 2 or 3 years in advance. I am headed to Namibia with Khomas Highlands Hunting Safaris in September but after that I am open.

My plan is to book a last-minute elephant or leopard hunt in 2028. I will skip a year and save for the trip. I did this several years back on a Cape Buffalo hunt and it was an incredible experience that was a huge value. The PH had several Cape Buffalo on quota which he had paid for but not sold. It helped that I had a previous hunt with the PH.

Congratulations. Hope you have a great hunt. My first elephant hunt was a last minute Covid deal and everything came together and I had a great hunt.

I am going to retire soon so hope to take advantage of these types of deals in the future.
 
So close, we almost overlapped flights, and for very similar adventures. I now depart the 16th out of ATL with Delta since the middle east seems to have some ongoing complications. I need to get my reservation for the overnight before a 6:00am-ish Airlink flight as well.

Something tells me that the short notice won’t be too big of a hurdle for you.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?
