Meopta Optika scope opinion

I’m looking at a NIB Meopta Optika 5 3x15x44 scope that someone has for sale locally. It has their “Z-plus” reticle.
I have no experience with Meopta. I’ve never used or even handled one before.
What’s your experience/ opinion on Meopta scopes? Maybe someone here has experience with this exact scope?

I have a Meopta R2 1,7-10x42. It’s a lovely piece of glass with an illuminated reticle. The Optika range are a more mid range scope but if the price is right I’d jump on it.
 
I have 2 meopro 3x9 scopes and a set of meostar binoculars. I really like them. Great quality for the $$$. I would compare them to the zeiss conquest line. Local support may be an issue at this point, but I've had mine 10 years with zero issues

I have become a strong proponent of Meopta optics after extensive field use and side-by-side low-light testing against comparable offerings from Leupold and Zeiss. In those conditions—where optical performance truly matters—Meopta consistently outperformed both. As a result, I have been gradually transitioning nearly all of my optics to Meopta.


In terms of optical quality, I believe Meopta most closely compares to Swarovski's Z6, but at roughly half the price.


My current Meopta lineup includes:


  • Four Meopta R2 1.7–10×42 — In my view, one of the most versatile and best-valued hunting scopes on the market.
  • One Meopta R2 2–12×50 — Purchased with the intention of using it on a leopard hunt.
  • One Meopta R2 2.5–15×56 — Currently mounted on my long-range rifle.
  • One Meopta R2 1–6×24 — Intended for a .404 Jeffery that I currently have being built.
  • One Meopta Optika 6 1–6×24 — This scope reinforced my opinion after direct low-light comparison with a Leupold VX-6HD 1-6×24. The roughly $500 Meopta demonstrably gathered more usable light than the approximately $2,000 Leupold.
  • Two Meopta Optika 5 2–10×42 — Exceptionally versatile and an outstanding value, though unfortunately they are not illuminated. If I was going to build someone a modestly priced starter rifle it would be adorned with this scope.
  • A pair of Meopta 10×42 rangefinding binoculars.
  • A pair of Meopta Meostar 8×32 binoculars.

After considerable testing and field use, I have come to view Meopta as one of the most underappreciated manufacturers in the premium optics market. The only downside: They are heavy, but that is the price you pay for durability.
 
I have 3 Meopta Optikas and have been very pleased with all three. Good Czech glass. As has been stated though, they are bulky and the power adjust ring is quite large. Low mounting on a rifle is tricky to allow for bolt throw.

That particular meopta offers excellent value for money and excellent optical clarity.
Meopta has the best light transmittance of any scope in the market.
I run meopta 3.5-10 X44 in two of my rifles, my Hornet and 25.
They are that clear I can pick out 22 cal bullet holes easier at 100yards.
The Z Plex is meopta version of the duplex reticle.
Adjustments are precise and repeatable.
@sgt_zim bought one and has not been disappointed by it.
You won't be either they are a fantastic scope in my humble opinion.

Thank you everyone for the comments. I purchased the scope yesterday. A guy local to me had if for sale. It was new in the box, never mounted. I got it for $350.
I’m planning on putting it on my Weatherby Mark V, in 300 Weatherby.
The rifle was wearing a 2 piece set of Leupold bases and low rings, and a Leupold 3x9x40 Var-x ll

I’m going to need higher rings for this scope, as I don’t have the clearance. Not sure if I’m just going to get medium rings, or get a set of Tally’s lightweight 1 piece rings/mounts.

I’m Kinda leaning towards the Talleys.
What your all’s thoughts?
 
I have an Artemis 2000, I think 4-12x50. It is absolutely bomb proof and has been on a 22 Hornet for around 10 years. The objective actually has a dint in it and still functions perfectly. I have two Meopros as well and I really like them.

I haven't had any loss of zero or other issues with them, as I have with other manufacturers.

I understand the Optika is cheaper option but have never seen one.

Thanks, post like this and others is what makes this place great. like I mentioned up thread I purchased the scope. 1st. impression is I’m very impressed. Can’t wait to get it mounted and sighted in!

you won't be disappointed. I had an Optika5 2-10x42 on my 9.3x62 for a safari in 2024, moved it to my son's 9.3x62. At that price point, I don't think there's anything that can touch it, including Leupold VX3.

I'd stick with medium rings. Unless your face fits with high rings, you're wasting capability on a 300 Wby mag. Long range shooting demands perfect alignment between pupil and center of crosshairs. A poor cheek weld on a too-low comb completely erases that.
 
I called Talley earlier today. They were super helpful helping order the correct 1 piece mounts.
I told them what rifle I needed the mounts for, then told them the model of scope. I told them I wanted to keep the scope as low as I could. They recommended their medium height extended 1piece mounts/rings. They should be here in a few days! Hopefully the weather is nice this weekend and I can get to the range!

Talley is a good company. I love their mounts
 
Ok, so finally I got some time after work and the wind wasn’t blowing so bad that to get her out to the range!
1st I love the scope! It’s very clear, and seems to tracks well.
Unfortunately, I don’t think the rifle likes my bullet/powder handloads The best group I shot was 1 3/8” at 50 yards. I know the rifle will shoot better than that.
Kinda funny to say this, but I Wasn’t sure how the blue line on the scope bell was going to look on the rifle, but I think they complement each other well.

Here’s a picture of it.

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.
