Rigby’s first 450 No 2 NE

Some pictures of the engraving (not done yet). I should say that I've added a Leopard to this hunt so if all goes well the Rigby 450 No 2 on its first hunt should take four of the Big 5. Very excited.

Thank you sharing this project with us. Waiting to see the finished project on what is going to be a stunning rifle.

Now the excitement really begins. As many of you know (and I'm sure have read the story) in 2023 I hunted Zimbabwe with Buzz Charlton. One of the cool things about the trip was getting to see the elephant Boswell, the 70 pounder, that lives in Mana Pools but wanders out from time to time. One of the times we spotted Boswell he was not far off the track eating the bark off a tree trunk. We got photos and videos of him. Here is one of the best photos.

Buzz believes that if Boswell manages to live another 8 or 9 years he has a good chance of becoming a 100 pound tusker. How cool would that be.

Since this gun is being built as an homage to Ian Nyschens, and since Ian Nyschens was an unpretentious guy (lots of times hunting in a loin cloth), I've kept this Rigby 450 No 2 double as plain jane as I expected was his.

But I did decide to embellish it just a little, and in the process immortalize Boswell as a thanks to showing himself to us numerous times while we were hunting. So here it is and Rigby absolutely knocked this one out of the park with bases loaded. I am totally thrilled.

If that is your understanding of "plain Jane", I'm curious what you would envision for a full embellished rifle! :E Rofl:

All kidding aside, that is some very impressive engraving. I'm usually not a big Bulino fan, so I'm mostly attracted to the amazing scrollwork, but this elephant engraving truly is well executed.

Absolutely beautiful!

Okay I had to look up "Bulino" :) and okay maybe it's not all that plain. Gonna be fun to hunt with.

That is just over the top exceptional in every way!!!!!

The excitement builds. Here is the latest from Rigby,

"The rifle is very close to be completed. We are waiting [on] the action and parts from hardening [and] the barrel to be blued. Then finishing and final regulation testing.

I still have 39 loaded FMJ rounds here at the house. And thanks to you guys I have 60 pieces of brass on its way from Australia and already have a bunch of Woodleigh FMJ & RNSN bullets so no problem getting enough ammo for the March trip should the rifle and fired brass not get in my hands till February.

BTW, once it is in my hands I'll put my 1908 W.J. Jeffery 475 No 2 Jeffery up for sale. Be forewarned it will be expensive and will come with loaded ammo, brass, bullets and loading die set. I will offer it here first. As you all know I took the Big Five with it, and all one shot kills. Four of them dropping right where they stood.

Anyway, shortly I will spin up a thread about the upcoming Zimbabwe hunt. Spoiler alert. It will now be for Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo. Of course I'll take one of my own Rhino at some point to finish the Big Five with this 450 No 2.

Super excited. Thanks for sharing the stories with me.

Well my friends, here is a photo from Rigby of the completed rifle. She is being prepared for export this week to the U.S. I am over the moon!

Congratulations sir! That is a stunning rifle!

That rifle is absolutely outstanding. I wish it all the success that the Rigby rifle attached to this posting has had. It is a 470NE made in 1910 and has been to Africa dozens of time by its four or five custodians.
I’ve probably asked this once , The finished piece looks like incredible tiger wood although I know it is a different walnut. Gorgeous one of the prettiest I have ever seen!

@Sourdough Beautiful rifle, anxiously awaiting your hunting report.

Feel free to PM me, when will you be in the Valley hunting with Buzz? Wondering if our time in Zim will overlap.

She is in my hands! HUZZAH!!!!

This picture doesn't do her justice as the room is dark. I'll get better and post later. Now to load the softs and shoot her in a few days. I am over the moon!

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
