What Watch do you wear when you hunt?

Great looking piece, which model is it?

This is arguably the best modern production Seiko dive watch they currently produce. Most of their Prospex dive watches are modern interceptions of their original designs or 5 Sport desk divers. This is an actual ISO 6425 rated dive watch with a unique case to this model and dial variations.

Any opinions on buying a solar powered watch ?
My Stowa I bought on the gray market started losing 34 seconds per day, the guy who I purchased it from said send it back and he would repair it and have it synced
But I now don’t trust it , and was looking at a Seiko with a Epson VS37 solar movement
Or am I barking at the wrong tree for accuracy.

I had good accuracy from a Citizen watch that was solar and had atomic timekeeping. My issue with it was getting good enough signal for it to receive updated information, but that was more than 20 years ago. This only occurred twice a year for the switch back and forth with Daylight Saving Time. I'm sure they've made improvements since then.

Citizen Eco-Drive & Atomic

My only other experience with solar powered watches is the half-dozen or so G-Shocks (Mudman and Rangeman) that were completely digital. They were 100% reliable and changed time automatically. I would drive by the Naval Observatory quite often and find that my watch was spot of with their clock on Mass Ave NW, DC. Not exactly a dress watch, but incredibly accurate.

My SSC 813 gains about 3 seconds per month. It has the V192 movement guaranteed to be +\- 15 seconds per month. It has been a daily wear for me during some long stretches and is quite tough. Still looks good too. Below is a bad photo from my wrist and a stock photo. I’ve read a few different times that Citizen’s solar movements are more predictably accurate than Seiko’s, but take that with a grain of salt. You can get a watch with a solar movement from small brands that
source movements from citizen or Seiko or go with bigger brands. I had my eye on a TAG Heuer Aquaracer solargraph for a while, and it seems if you dig in deep enough that they too allegedly source from Citizen.

In the digital world I’ve had excellent luck with a solar powered G-Shock 5610 and a current Mudman GW9500. I’ve really put them through the wringer. But as per @BeeMaa above, these sync via radio atomic clocks so I don’t know their native accuracy. In practice they are 100% accurate to the second, every day.

I bought my wife an analog dial Citizen with both solar and atomic time keeping. Outstanding watch. Also very tough through some hiking, gardening, woodworking and swimming.

I think solar and radio control is really cool. Every once in a blue moon it won’t receive the signal but either will the next night or I’ll force it to.

Really?
Who cares what time it is when you are on buffalo tracks?
I never take a watch and never will.....

Thank you for your permission. This thread, however, is ridiculous....

Just carry on if you’re not interested
Me personally I enjoy discussing time pieces
And using them on the boat or train, aircraft
I’m traveling in, just as a general point of navigation by habit

But if you’re going to be punctual about being rude save your pennies and purchase a watch ;)

Boat? Seamaster!
Train? Railmaster!
Aircraft (or spacecraft)? Speedmaster.

Omega has you covered my friend. Drop me a line and I'll show you the way to the Dark Side! ;)

I’m sure Omega has it covered from the blue water to the brown water over to the bullet line & up in the gray skies!

Some acquisitions over the last few months or so

IMG_1568.jpeg

For a hundred bucks or so really can’t go wrong with it, don’t think this color is sold in the US, had to do some hoop jumping and get one from the UK. Very sleek at 8mm or so. Actually wore it hunting quite a bit because of that and being easier under layered cuffs.

Been wearing this for a month or so. 39mm wears pretty well and constructed nicely, running +1spd if I leave it dial down over night. Bracelet is okay but is still pinned and no on the fly adjust. Only design complaint besides the bracelet is the crown. If it wasn’t under warranty or already broken I’d be tempted to mod the case and or crown tube and put a lower profile crown on it. Plan to wear it on an upcoming vacation and will probably take it on my next Africa trip.

Picked this up for S&giggles because why not. $500 of impressive chinesium. Have only had it a couple weeks and probably won’t wear it much if at all since I dress up about twice a year. Wears big and I think it’s thicker than advertised but I haven’t measured it. Interesting watching the wave it makes on the time grapher as the tourbillon rotates and I’m not sure how you’d even go about regulating it with only 1 minute wave intervals but keeps about +8spd dial up and +4spd on it’s side despite being all over the board on the time grapher.

Got a few post hunting season projects I’ve been working on, nearly complete on a full overhaul and service on a 70s Rado. Got 2 Soviet era Vostoks I’ve been rebuilding as well, overseas junk parts problems, me problems, have toasted two balance springs on one of them because of their damned stud set up. Did a dial and date wheel repair on a DHgate temu tier GMT master II as well I guess. Hope to have the projects wrapped up before fishing season rolls around. Cheers

I wish I had a new watch for every guy that says; I don’t need a watch. “I have a cell phone or I’m hunting who cares what time it is”.

Then asks me what time it is because they don’t want to dig the cell phone out of their pocket.

Same theme with knives when on a hunt. Do you have a needle and thread, or superglue, or a zip tie. A air mattress repair kit, batteries.

The same type of unprepared mentality.

Air mattress repair kit…you are killing me! :ROFLMAO:
I bring enough gig line, bulkhead remover, left-handed pipe wrenches, mop repair kits and sound powered phone batteries for everyone. ;)

My constant companion enjoying an early morning in the work truck.

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
