What Are Your 2026 Hunt Plans?

Hog hunt in NC, take the kids hog hunting in Florida, maybe save for a bison hunt in the fall with Jim Rivers and another deer season around home.
Really wanting to shoot a nice sized boar in NC again so I can get it mounted since I chose not to mount the 250lb one I shot a few years ago.
If the bison hunt doesn’t work out I’ll probably go bear hunting in WV with my brothers.

Rabbit hunting. Still trying to shot a doe with my recurve bow. Apparently bow hunting 2 times per month isn’t helping my odds.

We may put a hunt together in northern Italy. I am looking at a modified “McNab” hunt in Scotland ( 3 day not one) then going to visit wife’s relatives in Italy.

Spring/ summer trout and salmon. Pheasant hunting

Archery Elk with CWO

Grouse hunting

Back to deer hunting, fall salmon and trout
Late season heavy snow fall is perfect for traditional archery hunting.

If any make it through this cold snap, I'll be doing a mid-March iguana management hunt in south Florida. With the right ammo, those Gamo pellet guns are moa of iguana accurate.

I always thought that was one of the coolest Florida experiences you could do. I don't think I would eat one, or get one mounted. You can also target Egyptian geese and those weird looking ducks, so many off season exotic weirdos in Florida.

TTHA in January making outfitter connections for a 2027 African safari. I plan on taking someone on their first safari.

Improving hunting property throughout the year.
Spring black bear in BC in May
Doves in September
Whitetails in Texas towards the EOY

Having just completed two African Safaris, I was taking a break this year:

2026
  • My son and I leave in a few weeks to travel to the Texas Gulf coast to hunt Nilgai with another father/son pair who are long time deer hunting buddies. Taking a pair of 338wm rifles for that hunt. Mine is a Sako 85 and his is a Mauser Shaw custom
  • Fly fishing WV & NC this spring.
  • Fall rimfire squirrel hunting (the best) in KY & WV (Anschutz 64 22lr)
  • Saskatchewan Canada Bull Moose hunt with two KY friends - taking 338wm and/or 7mm Mag
  • Annual KY whitetail hunt in Nov - Ruger 338 RCM
  • Annual WV whitetail hunt the week after KY - Husqvarna 30-06
  • Working on plans for a 2027 Safari to Namibia - will take two rifles one light and one heavy
    • Eland
    • Golden WB
    • Zebra
    • Croc?
    • Other TBD

No big plans for this year, hoping to get my trapping license though!

This is my kind of taking a break from hunting. :A Thumbs Up:

I had two hunts scheduled for this year, one had to be cancelled......heart problems. Still plan to hunt Ireland the laset week of September.

I can relate to heart problems interfering with a hunt - got a pacemaker in 2024 after an event in NZ.

Have you been to the shows before? European hunts aren’t that well represented there aside from Spain. I’d go into show knowing what you are looking for.
375 Fox,

I spent Friday talking to a lot of European outfits plus a few that represent them. Ended up winning an auction for Chamois in Spain!!

In fact, I had planned to attend SCI this weekend but now I have my hunt booked!

Really excited for this one!

.

What a great variety of hunts & so many `first time Africa` hunts coming up! Awesome!

We had a great group pheasant shoot in the UK in January & as for the rest of 2026 we are looking at

March - CWD & muntjac in UK (same procedure as every year)
May - roe buck in UK with my wife
June - group driven springbok hunt in Karoo RSA
Sept - sandgrouse shoot in Namibia with friends
Oct - pronghorn with my wife in Colorado USA // sika stag in UK
Nov / Dec - driven wild boar shoots & pheasant plus hare in Germany

So that should keep us pretty busy this year !

.

We’re just starting to plan 2026… right now we’re thinking prairie dogs in Montana in June… and Croatia for boar and possibly stag in perhaps May….

We may still try to pull off a late season hunt in South Africa as well…

Plans changed a little…

Flights for the June prairie dogs are booked…

Croatia got bumped to September… wild boar and roe deer.. flights are booked..

Looking at flights this week for July to South Africa..

Got a knife/spear (dogs) hog hunt on thr calendar the first week of march..

And then I’m sure we’ll spend another 10-12 weekends this year either zapping coyotes, hog hunting, or in the deer blinds… like we always do…

You’ll enjoy hogs with hounds. It’s my favorite way to hog hunt. I’ve got an Ek Commando that I use.

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.
