I started to post on the “one more firearm thread”.
Then decided to make a new one.

Just received this yesterday. A 1891 W C Scott Premier Imperial Grade A in 12 bore.

It’s been fully restored which lowers collectors value. But helps someone that wants to use it.

Beautiful double barrel! I have a couple English shotguns myself; both are vintage. I buy them to actively shoot them and don't view the collector value at all. Even then, to me a restored firearm is beautiful because it looks like it did when it was new.

That’s a beautiful piece

And it’s even got your initial on the trigger guard. !

I used to think that we needed an extra lifetime to read books. The more time I spend on this site the more I am convinced that we need an additional extra lifetime to collect and shoot fine weaponry, and hunt. Congrats on that beautiful shotgun.

Beautiful double! Very nice wood and looks like intercepting sears too.

I’m no collector —everything in my safe gets used, but I’ve always thought that refinishing a vintage British double doesn’t hurt the value since they were often serviced (at least) after the shooting season. American vintage doubles are apparently different though.

Lovely Gun and find....,.,
In no way are you diminishing it's Value....
English guns are constantly being kept up.. Barrels re-Blacked Furniture re-Blued Wood and Checkering maintained ...
It is why there are so many well kept English Guns on the market. That and they are hunted differently then American Guns
For some reason Americans think that if you touch a Fox, Parker or Smith you are diminishing it's value

I couldnt care less about collector value since Im not a collector.. I just like having guns that I enjoy.. and I'd definitely enjoy that gun.. its stunningly beautiful..

great find!

:A Big Hello: Wow

What is your go to for hunting with 2.5 inch shells? I know there are a few to choose from for vintage shotguns.

What do you hunt with? Thanks

Assuming the restoration was done properly, and the stock of this one looks very good, all you have done is increased the value. Collectors treat American firearms like they are collecting coins or stamps. British and Continental guns were regularly refreshed.

It is amazing how many gunmakers who made great rifles and shotguns came and went because they weren't financially stable. The economic and social hardships the UK endured forced many out of business. The rest seemed to disappear because of debt....the nobility and aristocrats didn't pay their bills and the gunmakers could not collect.

dchum, I will use this for upland birds. Pheasant. Maybe a nice dry field for geese. Maybe a snowshoe hare. Sporting clays. It shoulders well and feels amazing in the hands.

I could load it down for grouse and Woodcock if I just wanted to use it . But I will not. I have better tools for those.

Someone asked what shot shells you would use in that sweet thing. I'm guessing RST? Maybe No. 6? Congrats on a beautiful addition to your Brit shotguns.

That was I was asking, thank you sir.

RST is is.

"Refreshing" and "Restoring" are not in the same category as "re-finishing" which can include some horrendous actions. That gun is not diminished in value IMO. It is very, and tastefully embellished from the factory, and I like the metal work. Still, I would never buy a SXS without handling it first. There is something indefinable that must be there, and it cannot be ascertained just by measurements. I just know it when I feel it. I handled 7-8 English SXS at Jackson Arms a while back, but bought a continental 16 ga. that swung wonderfully. If that one has "it" for you then you are a lucky man with a fine instrument. Enjoyed seeing it! Thanks.
BTW, I would welcome more posts with such pictures. They are real eye candy.

My grandfather was 1 yr old when that gun was offered for sale! Thanks for sharing one beautiful and well in-letted gun.

100% correct. Guns were regularly sent back to the maker for routine maintenance and refurbishment. A gun of this vintage has been back many times. Not to do so would be abuse.

This nonsense about not properly refurbishing a gun that needs it appears to be a uniquely American malady.

Oh, and I should have said, this is an absolutely stellar weapon. Congratulations!

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
Impala cull hunt for camp meat!
