Any Sako rifle fans on AH? Let's see them

I've owned the pictured Mannlicher style 30-06 for 40+ years. I've made many memories and taken countless whitetail deer with it.

I just picked up the pictured Classic style 30-06 in the last few months and deer/bear hunted with it over the last month. I was not fortunate enough to get a chance at a whitetail or bear with it (yet).

I have to say, I've owned several Sakos' and never owned one that doesn't shoot right out of the box.

One point to note is that I have not bought any that were manufactured after the 1980's either.

LET'S see and hear from you on your Sakos'!

I don't know that I have ever seen a "Classic Style" pictured on the right--beautiful! You say it hearkens to before the 90s? I think it ties with my Sako Safari for best looking stock design! What model number is it?

AIII. I believe it was built around 1980. A dear friend of mine that died way too young bought one in 270 win in the mid 1980s'. I've looked long and hard for decades and recently found this one for sale on this forum and grabbed it.

Let's see your safari model.

My Sako AIV in .375HH along with the PH's model 70 also in .375HH. Then ... silly Ole me with the same Sako AIV.

My two favorite rifles. Sako 85 Kodiak in 375 H&H and Sako 85 in 300 win. Same Leupold vx5 2-10 on both. The 375 is the most balanced rifle I’ve ever picked up.

@greyfox, I have not heard of this 'lock up"...tell me more....what Sako model ? Is the designe different or has been changed in other modes ? What is an "ebolt guide" ? What constitutes an upgrade..a new spring/a stronger spring/ different coil number ? I have a Sako L61r in 375 that I am refinishing/working through...would like to address any potential problems before they occur.
Thanks
The ebolt is a typo, no matter how many proof reads I do......

Mine's an AV 375 H&H I bought new in the mid 80's. I've shot it some (Not a gun you shoot a lot) Worked up handloads, etc. Before this season I was sighting in a bunch of rifles and this one, (on the second shot) locked up. I tried everything, then googled it and found where the issue was being discussed. There's a gunsmith in AK that had a bunch of the springs,

Underneath the bolt guide are two flat springs, one broke.

Now if that ever happens, you insert a punch and slide the bolt guide back and the bolt will open.

As a left-handed shooter, I'm usually a fan of any company that makes the effort to produce rifles for people with my particular affliction. I really do prefer the bolt to be on the proper side of the rifle especially when a scope is mounted. So Sako is really high on my list of favorites. What is surprising is that I currently only own one: A LH Sako 85 Hunter chambered in 30-06. Smooth. Well-balanced. It's the most accurate rifle in my safe so there's a lot to love. I came really close to ordering a Sako 90 in 6.5x55 SE earlier this year but in an unusual fit of financial responsibility, I balked at the last minute after getting a quote.

In the picture below you can see the Sako above my Winchester 70 Safari Express in 375 H&H. It has a Schmidt & Bender 1.5-8x42 Stratos mounted on it which is a great scope for the hunting that I do. I can cover a lot of situations with this combo. This would probably be my PG choices if I ever make it to Africa after I retire.

I inherited these two pre-Garcia Sakos when my dad passed away in 2020, and I don't think either has been fired for at least 20+ years (I plan to change that soon).

#1 - L461 with full-length stock; originally chambered in 222 Remington, and at some point rechambered by a prior owner to 223 Remington.

#2 - L579 Forrester heavy barreled varminter in 22-250 Remington

@greyfox, thanks for that explanation and the tip to fix if mine ever breaks; as I said I'm refinishing an old FinnBear and want to fix/take care of thing before they happen.

My 85 Black Bear in 9.3x62. I purchased on AH earlier this year. The action is the smoothest that I have felt and the handling would be tough to beat IMO. I'm OCD on rust, so she is getting a cerakote in midnight blue at the moment. I'll report back after I can get some range time with her Leupold V6 patrol. This is to be my "Swiss Army Knife" rig.

I hope your Black Bear shots as well as mine. One hole, 5 shot groups at 100 yards

You and me both. I never expected to own a Sako given the price. I now understand that are really not overpriced at all, or at least that much.

I own 3 but don't have a picture at the moment.
An AV laminated in 300 winchester
L61r deluxe from 68 in 30-06. Good story on this one. Air force general bought it in England new and brought it home after hunting all over with it during his career. His 80 year old son sold out to me a couple years ago.
And a quad 17hmr

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
