Lion hunts are done on foot by tracking them. It is a very exciting and rewarding hunt. Each lion hunter will be accompanied by 2 licensed Dangerous Game Professionals for extra safety. The ranch and lodge are owned and operated by DEKLERK SAFARIS so you are booking directly with the land owner and outfitter. The size of the ranch is currently 7 157 hectares (17 685 acres) with no internal fences. At the end of 2023 we were very fortunate to buy the neighboring ranches and in 2024we will be expanding our hunting area for lions to a total contiguous block of 8870 hectares (21 917 acres), making it the largest hunting block for captive bred lions in South Africa.

The lodge is very comfortable with 5 ensuite rooms, airconditioning, swimming pool, bar, inside and outside fireplace a barbeque (braai) area. The lodge is situated in the middle of the hunting area so we start hunting the moment we leave the lodge.

I was hunting a lioness with Hans and Frikkie in february 2022 and it was a very great experience.
The lioness was very big (183 kg) and I shoted her at just 13 meters away thanks to te great job of PHs and trackers.
The lodge is very comfortable, the cuisine is magnificent (thanks Heidi) and all the people is charming.
Totally recommended.

I hunted with Hans in 2017 and had a great experience. The hunting, number of animals you see, the staff and his family are all A+. You want find a nicer group of people to hunt and share a campfire with.

I did an archery hunt for lion with Hans and Frikkie in 2021. To say it was exciting doesn't do it justice! They're great guys; DeKlerk's operation is first rate. Added on a gemsbok and a warthog, making it a fantastic week there.
Happy to PM with anyone who wants more input.
Tom

So what we feared for a long time is finally becoming real.

See attached below.

Sincerely
Hans de Klerk

When does this take effect?
Your guess is as good as ours.
Our dear minister of Nature Confusion (Barbara Greecy) has not announced a time line, which is typical of our incompetent government who makes laws but do not think of the consequences and / or how to implement it.
My guess is if they say we have 2 years to exit the industry then this year 2024 will be the first year and 2025 will be the second year.
Nobody knows.

Do I understand it correctly that lions are not importable into the USA? Can you bring back any part of the lion at all?

I ask because I'm interested even if they are not import able but was curious.

No

Hello Letzhunt
In 2016 the US Fish and Wildlife service shut down the importation of lion trophies.
The same thing happened with polar bear, brown hyena, bontebok, etc. where the American officials think they know more about conservation than what Canadian and South African governments know.
The lion trophies can be imported into Mexico or Canada or many of the Caribbean islands (that are not USA territory).
That is the reason why these lions are such a good price.
Before 2016 (when lion trophies could still be imported into America) the same hunt would have cost more than double.
A lot of our American clients still come and hunt lions just for the experience.
Some of them have the skull and skin treated and tanned and we keep the skull and skin for them in our walk-in safe free of charge. They are hoping that the regulations will be lifted in the future so that they can import their lion trophies.

If you plan to do a lion hunt do it as soon as possible.
Do not wait till 2026.

Sincerely
Hans de Klerk

I hunted with Hans and Frikkie in 2022, and they both run an outstanding operation. Heidi is amazing for ensuring that everything in the lodge is running smoothly and will do anything to ensure your wellbeing. I was battling a stomach issue, and Heidi went out of her way to ensure that I felt well enough to hunt. Frikkie has a wonderful and happy attitude and is a wealth of knowledge out in the dessert.

Even if you don't go and hunt a lion with them, they have other animals on their property to have a wonderful safari. Great bunch and can't say enough good things about them.

I took a CBL hunt with the De Klerk's 11 years ago. I had a wonderful hunt, took a very nice male lion along with a very nice 36 7/8" eland. Rooms, camp and hunting areas are top notch, I highly recommend this property and outfitter!

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.
