Just wondering what are some good and bad points about Browning A-bolts. I'm left handed and choices are not great. Next question is why are so many people against muzzle brakes? Always thought anything that helped accuracy and reduced recoil would be welcomed. Sure they're loud but I never shoot without ear protection anyway.

Nothing wrong with Browning A bolts, love them! The whole muzzlebrake issue is just about the noise. Browning muzzlebrakes blow the noise back at the shooter, it helps lower the recoil but I don't care for it.

PH's and trackers don't wear ear protection!!!

Muzzlebrakes are almost a safety issue, especially if someone in heat of the moment fires one of by your ear, you could have severe tinnitus after one shot.

Not to mention permanent loss of hearing. Tinnitus is bad, had it for 40 years along with lousy hearing. I HATE MUZZLEBRAKES!! They are great for the shooter but HELL on everyone else around him.

im a fan of muzzlebrakes , but no one l hunt with is purley because of the niose factor
l have had them fitted on my 30.06 ,300 w/m, 300 r,u,m and im going to send off my wifes 7 mm soon to be fitted
and wear ear protection only when sighting in a firearm. and sit and glass hunts
l to are a lefty ,but never fired a left handed riffle

I am not a lefty, but i used my Browning 375 HH with a muzzle brake 2 times in RSA, there was no complaints from tracker's, PH's, etc. What i like most of the brake is just not less recoil, its how fast you can get on an animal after your 1st shot, i was shooting at a big kudu in the thick stuff, guessed wrong and shot a tree, the follow up shot was quick and i stoned him, otherwise he would have been gone, its was a +58" kudu and i had been after him for 2 days... Ya they are loud, but i sure like it on the 375, its a personal preference..

Nothing wrong with the browning a bolts they are great rifles. For a factory built production gun. As for the muzzle breaks I think everyone covered it well. The nose is the main issue. Granted they do help with recoil and more important I think is the muzzle jump but a properly fitted stock can help with that also. It's hard to find lefty guns. I am left handed as well a removable muzzle break is nice

Using muzzle brakes at the range, take them off for hunting. Your PH may not say anything, to displease the client. Have a little respect for the people you are hunting with.

I'm a life long A-bolt and Browning enthusiast in general. I have owned several and still own four A-bolts in calibers from .223, 30-06, 7mm Rem Mag, and 375 HH. Not only is Browning one of the easier rifles to pick up in left hand they are relatively unchanged, making the use of different rifles and calibers easier due to the commonality of the platform. I think the fit and finish of an A-Bolt will rival ny production rifle out there.

I've never been a fan of the BOSS or muzzle brake rifles, simply a personal choice.

My A-Bolt is my go to rifle. Hard to go wrong in my opinion.

you may want to look at a Tikka rifle they make a lot of left handed actions. I have three myself and friends as well super accurate out of the box instead of a muzzle brake look at suppressors , had a chance to use one in Namibia. It was the PH's sons gun it was very quiet and zero recoil

I've used a left handed A-bolt for years. Good factory rifle. And the safety is correctly located, as it is on the Savage.

My hunting partner uses a lefty Savage and loves it. Unfortunately lefties always think with the wrong side of their head
Have you ever noticed how many hunting show hosts are lefties? Way more than the population ratio in general.
BTW, I like Browning guns in general.

I have an A-bolt and love it. Short 60* throw-much better than model 70s. That said look at the X-bolt, not sure about LH but this model allows you to cycle the bolt while still on safe.

Nothing wrong with a browning I have a Euro Bolt that I love drives tacs as good or better then most guns I own and it does have a Boss muzzle break system but for some reason it doesn't seem as bad as a regular drilled type muzzle break but maybe that's just me. in anycase when I went to Africa I gave my PH a pair of Walker Game Ears of his own there cheap enough on ebay because no muzzle blast is good for your hearing.

I don't have an A-bolt, but I bought one in 30 06 for my son when he turned 14. It's a great rifle and I think they are high quality for a production gun. I like the short bolt throw, similar to my Weatherbys. The only complaint I have with them is that they are light. That's geat for hiking up and down hills for elk or goats, but may be a draw back in the heavier kicking calibers. Like everyone says on the muzzlebreak, it's not you, but those standing near you.

there's a surprising number of people right here who are lefties. I wouldn't have guessed it.
I'm a lefty also.

do we just have a natural tendency to be out in the sticks?????

Whether you're right handed or left handed is irrelevant when deciding on left handed bolt gun or a right handed bolt gun. What is important is whether you are right eye dominant or left eye dominant. That is the deciding factor.

I would like to thank everyone for their input. Some things I had thought of and others I had not. I did go ahead and buy the Browning A-bolt Stainless Stalker left handed in 375 H & H with Boss system. The dealer gave me such a deal I couldn't say no. Bought some ammo and went out and sighted it in. Shot most of the first box off of the bench with the muzzle brake on and thought this doesn't kick any worse than my 7 Rem Mag. Then I took off the Muzzle and put on the solid piece and shot again. Holy Cr## what a difference. I was also surprised at how much the zero changed. Shot a few more rounds offhand, some with and some without the muzzle Brake. Now I'll be start working up some reloads. Again thanks to everyone for your input.

LOL, quite the difference, I use to think when I was youngster that the 7mm was the most powerful firearm out there. Now my perspective changed and it's a baby compared to the big boys. That's why I like reading about 458 Lott and other big boys, those calibers will put a hurt on you it you are not prepared.
