I need a copy of this reloading manual, any reasonable condition. I realize the web PDF is free, but my kids are loading for their guns and we don't have "kid Internet" over here...destroys the mind.

Thanks!

Pm in bound.
I got home and dug thru my building and found Volume 4 Barnes. I don’t need it.

Rookhawk, if this is an "older manual, don't be surprised to see that the loads are a little bit hotter than the ones being recommended today.

I haven't looked at a newer Barnes manual but the #4's loads were quite a bit lighter than the #3 manual were.

And looking at their online loads they are still a little lighter.

That is usually the trend to drop them down instead of up.

At least for what I load for.

In light of this, and how incredibly hard it is to get to the range, do you think we can pick the mid-point load data and load up cartridges calling it a day, provided we use the conservative #4 load data on once-fired brass in Mauser/Win70 actions?

I've done it, and it has worked out for me with an average of a 1 inch group. My normal shooting distance where we hunt is roughly 150 yds. Your rifle will decide if he likes the load or not.

Some manuals show which load turned out to be the most accurate with their rifle, and I've used that data and it has worked out for me as well.

I’ve found most of my rifles (all win70, Mauser, or kimber) prefer the higher end of the #4 load data, with the only exception being a couple of .308’s that like a moderate charge of IMR4064 behind a 168gr ttsx…

I’m not sure if it’s the rifles themselves or the ttsx bullet design… but as a rule I get tighter groups and more consistent behavior out of my reloads when I’m pushing pretty close to the top of the #4 data…

I should also add that for most of my “deer” calibers I use 4064 or 4320…

It says in the #4 that the loads are up to max of 51K PSI which is probably close to about 47K CUP. I let my rifles tell me when max is met, regardless caliber.
This round is historically underloaded in manuals due to its vintage and the plethora of old, small ring Mausers still around being shot.

Hi. I’m also searching for this book. Do you still have it?

thanks,
Wade

I got my copy. Feel free to threadjack and get yourself one.

I did find the #4 to be incomplete. Many popular ttsx bullets are not listed. (E.g. 80gr 6mm/.243)

I hope they print a #5 soon.

a fellow hunter here in japan is actually wanting this book. I can’t find a copy anywhere for him.
