Politics

It's always best to understand the other side. But, I am having such a hard time with it after reading the above. So much has changed in global politics that this war is an anachronism. Let's assume NATO was a threat and sought to invade by 2030, then what? Would we charge into Moscow and impose such harsh things like freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of religon, impose a government that is accountable to its people? Would our troops patrol the streets at night to enforce rigorous adherence to these freedoms? Would we mandate small blue plug-in vehicles? Would the TV only play The View?

Such utter nonsense.

I do feel bad for the Russian soldiers. When we adopted our daughter in Ukraine, we got to know another family who lost their son in Afghanistan as a member of the USSR forces. He was simply a young man following orders.

If Putin is successful in occupying Ukraine, his soldiers will face fierce underground resistance. Does Russia have enough men to feed into that meat grinder? It certainly appears that the Ukrainians have the will to turn the handle.

Watch for an outcome where a shattered Ukrainian government agrees to a truce that guts the country. In corporate terms, an asset purchase rather than buying the company.

Then, by the way, Russia will control certain raw materials for the making of semi-conductors and natural gas to Europe. Not a bad acquisition. Certainly not a bad foundation for an empire. The West has grossly misunderstood this I think.

Zelenskyy had the opportunity to expose the Biden corruption in Ukraine. He chose to stay out of American politics and keep quiet during the Trump impeachment.

Doing what is right regardless of the consequences is important.

Wonder if Zelenskyy would like a do over on that now.

I feel very bad for the Ukrainian people, but I dont have much sympathy for some of the Ukrainian leadership, and the greedy Oligarchs.

They are probably wishing Trump was President right now.

Trump will not forget about those who stabbed him in the back.

Last night, the Biden administration offered to evacuate Zelenskyy. He rejected the offer saying “I need ammunition, not a ride.“ If the Russians we’re on the outskirts of DC now, Biden would be hiding out in New Zealand. Quite a contrast in character. More power to the Ukrainian resistance and may God bless the people of Ukraine.

I saw this yesterday. Many of the Russian troops are recent conscripts forced to sign contracts allowing them to be sent out of Russia and into Ukraine.

It is interesting to watch YT on the July 11, 2018 NATO summit. Pres Trump chastises Europe, and especially Germany, for buying Russian oil and making them rich, while still expecting the US taxpayer to fund NATO and protect them. It is worth watching, especially for Trump haters. They have no idea of all the things he did, or tried to do for them. MNM railed against him for being "anti-Nato", but of course, that was just another lie. He was the ONLY politician that saw a problem here, and tried to head this off. A broke Russia can't easily afford to fund an invasion. While Germany talked Green, it imported black. Just a note: many of the most egregious errors and possible crimes by Sniffer Joe are disappearing from public media... Joe has hired lawyers, and set up a war desk/chest to deflect criticism or prosecution in the event of a Republican take over of congress. They are deleting data right now. (Good coverage of this on Reuters.) Open discussions already censored (Big Tech funders I assume) ..This NATO Summit film still exists... Votes have consequences. Voting for Biden is coming back to bite........FWB

Hey @Vashper, If your translator is not working very well it would be best to use more caution in posting and response. Although many here seem to feel a need to accommodate you, be kindred spirit hunting buds and give benefit of the doubt, I have no idea the real meaning of most of your posts. Likewise you probably have no idea of the real meaning of what is being posted. I'll remain skeptical and pay no further attention to your posts.
This day and age a guy has to be careful what you post. They kick me off Facebook for 30 days for making a radical statement about using some nukes. So I deactivated Facebook for 30 days so I don't have to look at their crap when I can't respond.

This is a day old but does give some perspective.

@Vashper I'm not sure what you are trying to communicate. there are two aspects of this confusion. 1. I infer that you are making assumptions about me and the USA which have no/little basis in fact. 2. it is clear that you are reding content into my statements that is not there.

The result is you are coming across in a manner that is very uncomplimentary to you. What you choose to do about this is up to you. Our opinion of you is up to us.

I watched it the other day. The look on everyone elses face at the summit was priceless.

You fellers see what Medvedev said? Yeah... sanctions are REALLY starting to work. When your adversary is using words like impotence and cowardly, and threatening more death... probably your strategies aren't doing what you thought they would.

The article said that Russia hasn't had the death penalty for 25 years- I guess that doesn't include all the political adversaries that died of mysterious causes.

the sanctions are directed at Russia as a response to the invasion. A better approach would have been, and still could be- reinstating the oil/lng policies that Bidet cancelled. In addition, building a Trans-atlantic pipeline to Europe and Africa for oil/lng. Otherwise the Germans will remain under Russia's thumb.

Oil would go back to $25/barrel and war would be unaffordable.

Why would they leave the power on? Either Russia military is not very good or its all fake news from CNN and FOX.

I honestly thought the Ukrainian government would collapse within 72 hours. Kiev (Kyiv) is right on the border and my assumption was that even the current Russian military could sustain sufficient momentum and combat power to overrun the capital. Apparently not - or more precisely, at least not yet. It is worth considering that this is not the Red Army. What it lacked in sophistication, the Red Army at least made up with massive numbers of troops, armor, and fire support. The current force is rather brittle, with some pretty good first tier units, but a lot of far less well trained and equipped formations among support troops.

I find the rather large number of videos showing destroyed rocket launcher, engineer, and supply columns particularly interesting. Someone is leading a very smart tactical fight. Let the tanks and armored fighting vehicles through while destroying the support systems as they come up. A tank without fuel is nothing but a steel pillbox. If a Javelin or NLAW is handy, it is nothing but a target.

I would assume these young conscripts were sent off believing they were liberating their fellow Slavs from a tyrannical group of Western stooges. It can't be helpful to their morale to find of nation of free people willing to preserve their sovereignty with their lives. If the casualty figures are only a third to a half what the Ukrainians are claiming, that too has to be an unexpected shock. It looks like Russian airborne and airmobile forces have taken particularly heavy casualties.

The odds are still firmly on Putin's side. Civilians in Kiev will start to go hungry soon. I presume NATO can get supplies into Western Ukraine fairly easily. Getting them to Kiev will be another matter, though certainly possible if the Russians are unable to actually invest the city.

To date, this operation looks like a huge miscalculation. If that is correct, then Putin, for political and legacy reasons may be starting to feel desperate. His threatening Sweden and Finland with military consequences sounded almost hysterical. That makes him potentially all the more dangerous. But there are pragmatists in the Kremlin. To say this is turning into a very bad look for a supposedly civilized, modern state is an understatement. The nation that defeated Hitler in turn copying Hitler's brutal playbook of 1938-39 can't be playing well with a number of the professional military men of the type with whom I dealt in the early 2000's.

It will be an interesting few weeks.

I believe Japan was interested in countries with natural Resorces in WW II.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
