Question about Ducks in Ontario Timber

We also have large lakes in the area and the ducks don't care if they find something to eat at your place.
I have been able to observe a system for years.
The smaller the water, the greater the success
Daily(as often as it is possible for you), feed with corn for example, wheat or barley, in the morning, possibly build food flow or several.
Before you feed send the dogs in and drive away all the ducks from the reed, important!!.They will eat their fill and disappear to the big lakes for resting..
The grain is quite expensive but the ducks and the hunt will thank you.
Don't hunt often, rest by the water and hunt hard from time to time (i know you have quotas)
Only hunt on the evening,do not let the dogs into the water until the hunt is over.
In our place was not shot one duck(as well as), since the concession neighbor uses this system, now 300 a year !!
Waidmannsheil and good luck.

or so,you dont need a larger water.Ducks eat like elephants :)
Feed them and you have it.

The laws are somewhat different in NA. Putting out food for ducks and shooting over it is likely to result in a hefty fine. Planting food for them is fine as long as you do t do anything g to disperse the grain (like bush hogging).

Oha.Then you have to attract them with it in the closed season and stop on the day of the start of the hunt with it.
Quite a few ducks will remember where the table was once so richly laid.

Perhaps change deer to duck. ;)

Be careful with DU, they may place restrictions on your land that you may not appreciate in the future. We ran into this on some hayland.

That was a concern. I have absolutely no problem being a part of a conservation solution. But, my lawyer sense was tingling and the thought of transferring an interest. I suppose I would have to have the intention of tying up the title to some portion of the land with them.

I believe it is ok to enhance the environment with plantings. But I cannot bait. But I got the idea of what you where saying, thanks.

Knowing how far it is from you, a summer trip before season, timed feeding
knowing the feeder spits out lets say 5# of corn twice a day means you can time your hunt to coincide with the 2 week no bait rule
The ducks will realize a safe spot and also feed off the normal feed, just need to place feeder in shallow water

If nothing else it will keep the bears entertained! Lol

In Nova Scotia that’s been overthrown atleast as far as agriculturally, for instance if I were to spread manure that has crack corn in it passed through cattle and then sit over it hunting it was still done with agricultural aspects in mind.

One of the best duck foods is wild rice. If you can find out from a local biologist whether the habitat will support wild rice there is no better duck attractant. And it is natural food, and not 'baiting' All wildlife loves it - moose, muskrats, etc. Seed is available from wild rice commercial growers. It must be handled in a certain way, kept fresh and moist and seeded in shallow water the fall I believe. And later you can harvest some wild rice for your own consumption. Delicious paired with roast duck.

There is lots of wild rice around me. There is a marsh on the otherwise of the road from the "pin" on the picture that has a lot of it. So that is good news, thanks. Oddly I have not see any waterfowl in that marsh. But I have only seen it in late July and late November so far.

Hey guys, I thought I would post an update of our efforts.

We bushwacked through to the two beaver ponds. Both are quite large and have wood areas. These are the best photo I have of them. As if on cue a duck landed next to the dead trees there! The really cool thing is that there area has had a major drought and there was plenty of water here.

Looks awesome! Did you find any wild rice in the ponds? If not I would plant some.

Great idea! There is a lot of wild rice on the property in another marshy area. But, I did not specifically look at these ones.

Would you plan to set up in the dead trees or build blinds along the banks?

Personally, I would set up where the ducks want to be with the wind at my back. With all that cover you don’t really need a blind unless you just want one.

In retrospect, the obviousness of the truth in what you state makes my question look very silly indeed! lmao!
