Please expose this guy ! He had enough time and will probably not do anything about it !! We need to get these people out of the Industry !

If I get the contact information I will invite the (outfitter/PH/Taxidermist?) to reply to the concern here on AH.

He did send me an e-mail saying he will, "Get tot he bottom of it" after he returns from his honeymoon. I will also see him in Harrisburg PA at the Eastern Outdoor Show the first week in February. I want to give him the chance to make it right before I release his name to the AH community. If any of the members are planning a trip to the Limpopo area of RSA and want to avoid my mistake, you can PM me and I will share his info. I will only do that if you promise not to share it publicly.

A friend's daughter thought this was a good way to dress up his Euro mount for Christmas.

That sounds fare enough at less your willing to help a fellow hunter from getting bit thats all anyone can ask. I got lucky on my first taxidermist Cecil he did mess up on one of my trophies a management wartgog that I got for free. I had paid for a skull mount 170.00 but when pulling the tusk for SCI measurements the skull was broke so he mounted them on a plaque and didn't mention it to me when I got them in and seen that, I emailed him to let him know. Well what I was expecting was a small refund for the difference in price what I got was an email saying he was very very sorry and upon my next trip to Africa mount of my choice free of charge. hehe now being one that can't resist a good joke I emailed him back thanking him for his generosity that my next hunt was for a cape buffalo and I was thinking full body mount and sence Rusty my PH is a good friend of Cecil's I passed the joke along to him. Turns out though I did get a really good deal the Warthog I shot this time got a full body mount at half price I wouldn't let him flip the whole bill, can't wait to get them in next month.

I think its is fair...hear what he offers / say's before anything gets posted on any forum without ANY evidence...

This is really sad I am sorry to read things like this.

The big question is why did the Outfitter/Taxidermist allow the trophies to be exported when he knows they are not at the very least on par?

As Outfitters we do at times have problems with some trophies were a cape might have got hurt (it is always the Outfitters fault in my experience no taxidermist will ever admit that things went wrong on his side but here the Outfitter and Taxidermist is the same person uuhhh) it is inevitable that things do go wrong but then it is very important to replace the cape and make sure that the trophies are in a good condition when shipped?

I will never bad mouth an Outfitter for when things go wrong (it is never easy) but I will say that if this is his idea of personal attention and tending to his clients needs he is in deep trouble!

Just a great shame that could have easily been avoided!

Best Regards
Louis van Bergen

I think you already said it yourself earlier!!

Yip, SHIT WORK!!!

Did you received any response from the Outfitter / Taxidermist yet?

Giving the guy a chance to make it right is reasonable.

Yup, when you do it all, you can't hide and blame the other guy.

Sure would like to know who the outfitter was...I can keep a secret

Kwiktan (member) out of SA has a US based hub that sells skins. Just a thought, they are tanned and not really expensive. Check out their website.

I dislike when someone has been wronged and no one wants to name names. If you have been wronged name that person and make them do the right thing. By not naming the company you are helping him/them cover up and allowing this type of treatment to go on.
Why bother even bringing up this thread if you do not name names.
Shame on you.

I am going to the harrisburg show on the fri and sat . if I see a booth that has been shreaded I will know you did not get the answer you wanted !

I am sorry that a taxidermist let that go out of their shop.
I am new to this site so don't everyone beat me up too fast.
I did do a introduction but just a quick shout out. I spent 23 years in the Army and retired and for the last six been doing taxidermy full time between hunting.
I went through the pictures as best I could.
Picture 1 - That was caused by them shaving it to close and knocking the follicles out.
picture 2. Slippage / This a lot of times is because the prep work was not done correctly. If that hide or that spot stayed warm to mong and was not salted it will do that. Only thing a taxidermist can do is either cut that small part away and resew with a hidden stitch on that or mount it and paint the animal, when it is painted though you cannot paint one area you have to paint the entire animal and blend it.
Picture 3. There were three things in that one 1. Skinning hole very easily fixed before mounting. Slippage - could have done earbutts a little different and fixed most of that. 3. Bed sewjob on that cut.
4. That looks like it could have been shaved to close, but the hair is broken? It could have been dragged or mishandled prior to the taxidermist.
5. Way to blurry to tell
6. Slippage again it looks like, but there are some funky colors of paints hard to tell
7. I think you are referring to the sew job? I would agree could have been a lot better.
8 & 9 are slippage. Poor field care. If that was taken care of asap that would not have happened.

What you can do, like a lot of people said on here is to get new capes and do a remount. A lot of times when remounting it all has to be replaced, capes/forms/eyes. Depending on how they did it and what they used.
Sometimes it can be rehydrated and taken off and the cape saved, the only issue with that is you do not know how it is going to turn out. Sometimes you can save the cape and it rehydrates fine, other times it will fall apart on you.

I wish you the best in whatever avenue you go down, just wanted to explain a couple of things so when you talk to him about those you can give him some ideas.

Joe

Joe, thanks for the post, nice to hear a professional opinion.

sorry to hear about this, its never fun when a bad trip dosent end when you go home. I hope for nothing but the best outcome for you. On the bright side, this web site has shown its tendency for an outpouring of help.
