10mm auto new pistol which one?

I went with the Kimber Camp Guard. Changed the grips and has done everything I want it to. Friend has the Ruger and he loves it.

I am wanting to purchase a new 10mm pistol. Would you buy a Glock 20 or a Colt Delta Elite? Any other recommendations?
I bought a Glock Model 40 (6"barrel) 10mm a couple of years ago. I put Trijicon night sights on it and carry it not only in the woods while camping and hiking, but have also carried it concealed with my ccw. It's amazingly concealed in my Askins style holster under a sweatshirt. Anyway, I don't carry a handgun while hunting in the Colorado mountains. Too much weight while wearing a 25-30lb. backpack, and really no good place to secure a handgun for ready use. I have my .338 Browning. In the woods, I carry 220gr. hard cast Buffalo Bore rounds, and 180gr. Sig Sauer rounds for everyday carry. Shoots very accurate with both, and the recoil is LESS than my Glock Model 27 .40 S&W! I love my Glocks and I think they are the finest combat handgun made! Just my opinion

I have a Kimber Target II 10MM.
Other than throwing the brass into the next county, I like it.
Kimber, and several companies make 6” longslide 10MM’s.
If I was to buy a 100MM today, I would go the 6” 1911 route.

For your original question. Both are great. I own a good amount of 10mm’s. These are my opinions.
The Delta has two issues; first, the barrel isn’t fully supported so cartridge load can be limited and two, there is no feed ramp on the barrel itself so there is a small gap that can/will cause feed issues. There are a few companies that machine barrels specifically for the Delta. It’s not cheap and to add to the price of the gun is what turned me off of it. However, both issues are solved with that.
As for the Glock. I do own their line of firearms except for the GAP models. They fit me great and they take a beating. My main carry when moose hunting is the G20. All have Suarez International triggers. They use the stock trigger bar but change to a flat shoe. It feels better to me. I use plus five extension for hunting and fishing just incase I get multiple families of bears again. They are my primary carry due to capacity and ruggedness.
The Ruger 1911 is a good cheap 10mm. The only issue I’ve had with it was feeding problems. I switch to .45 ACP magazines and works great. Wilson Combat magazines worked the best. After 1k the factory magazines started to work regularly.
Sig P220 Legion is great, love that gun. I’m a big fan of double action, single action with decocker. Really the only downside to it is capacity and weight.
Kimber, another fine 10mm, but some have sat in a store/warehouse for years so the springs are a bit of an issue. Kimber customer service is great on that. They will send you a new spring kit and once swapped out she’s a fun one to shoot.
Dan Wesson is another great one. The Bruin feels like the slide is on roller bearings. It’s silky smooth and I use it deer hunting in Michigan. Silverback which has been discontinued but still available is also a great one. Downside on Dan Wesson’s is the price.
Springfield XDm are my least favorite. For me the grip is not for me. The trigger is also not very good. Upgrades are available. I have never cared for the Springfield line. Again this is personal preference. Others I work with love their XDm’s.
For EDC I use 200gr Speer Gold and hunting is usually Buffalo Bore or Double Tap. I really like the DT 180gr controlled expansion for strictly hunting with 10mm.
Ultimately it will come down to each individual.
Sorry for the length, but I hope this will help with any questions. Best of luck and the 10mm is a great choice.

No need to apologize for the length...thank you for having taken the time to share!

I've always wanted to hunt whitetail with a 10mm, in the swamp where shots are close and carrying around a pistol would be a dream. I've always feared its adequacy, though. On smaller deer, such as a doe, I'd not be too worried but some of the bucks in the place I hunt can run 300 pounds on the hoof (or more). Even at close range and with a stout, heavy bullet I'm concerned about getting sufficient penetration (which, to me, is a pass-through as I want as good a blood trail as I can get, tracking in the swamps at times a tricky thing).

Sorry to Colt fans, but the Delta is crap. Not having a feed ramp or a fully supported chamber is not acceptable for a 10mm.

The Glock 20 is a great option, but I would only consider one if it had the lone wolf 1911 grip mod.

There are a lot of great 1911s in 10mm these days. It seems that every manufacturer has one.

I am also really intrigued by the new Sig Sauer P220 in 10mm or the new Springfield XD in 10mm.

As far as bear protection goes, the 10mm is probably what I would consider to be the bare (hahaha) minimum. I would prefer something in 44 mag or bigger. I am a really big fan of the Ruger SRH Alaskan in .454 Casull. It is one hell of a gun and an absolute blast (someone stop me) to shoot. Bowen does a great job modifying these guns to look great. A .500 Special in a blackhawk or redhawk would also be a sweet piece against bears.

The first rule of a bear gun is having it on you. The second rule of a bear gun is having it on you. I prefer the G29 for my backpacking excursions with a Streamlight TLR-1 HL mounted. I should have sprung for the light and laser combo TLR-2 as this is King of the darkness. I load it with a 180 grain hollow point and carry a magazine of FMJ. Yes, I know they make 200 and above grain bullets. No it is not a .44 or a big bore special purpose gun. It's not a pea shooter either. I believe in multiple hits and imparting an extraordinary amount of violence in a short period of time as opposed to the one or two shots from the ultralight .44 or ten ton compact hunting revolver. I'm not hunting here, but defending myself without a rifle or shotgun. The gun is reliable and easily maintained in the field. The frame mounted light makes bumps in the night easy to sort. I won't be inconsolable if I damage or lose it either.

The delta is an amazing gun after a bit of work. Having the frame milled for a closed reverse plug and a ramped bull barrel are great improvements. A higher magazine release is also a good improvement as are Tripp Systems magazines. I used some Wilson bulletproof parts inside as well. You can tune the 1911 to run hot 10 mm all day long. It is much less of a beater utilitarian tool than a Glock and very accurate, but lacks a rail for my night light...

I carry Glock G20 with Viridian light/laser combo when in bear country. I started carrying after having a bear scare. For legal reasons in national parks I’m restricted to a concealed firearm so shottie or rifle is out of the question - it would have to be unloaded and in a gun case.

The G20 offers high capacity, reasonable size and weight, sturdiness and a truly terrible trigger. I’m not a Glock fan and certainly not a Glock trigger fan. If you can modify the trigger it would be a great improvement to what is otherwise a dependable, no thrills gun. In Poland 10mm guns are super rare so I’ve never handled anything besides my G20 but I’m tempted to buy a DA/SA 10mm EAA Witness or perhaps Sig P220 Legion as I would much prefer a DA/SA versus Glock action. I really like Sig Legion triggers but P220 is only 8+1 capable wheres EAA is 14+1. To me Glock works and you can’t fault that part of it but it has a mass production, cheap feel to it.

Opposite Pole, guessing somewhere in Poland someone is bringing in trigger kits for competition Glocks? Maybe ask those guys to bring you in a Trigger for your 10mm?

I can get a trigger kit from ZEV but they state on their website that it’s recommended for competition use only and I’m concerned it’ll be too light for safe carry. The issue with G20 trigger (my one anyway) is not heavy weight but a long, creepy pull without clean break point. I’m not expecting it to be crisp like a target 1911 but it sure needs improvement. Anyone here have experience with ZEV triggers on Glocks?

Owned the Sig 220 SAO and IAI Javelina. Sig was definitely a shooter and weight tamed the full power 10mm loads, but grip frame just didn't feel right to me. Felt boxy. Javelina was a very interesting pistol. 1911 with a 6" barrel and very accurate. Trigger was surprisingly good, but frame to rail fit wasn't very good and slide action was gritty. Ended up selling both but still have a lot of 10mm ammo.

The GP100 or S&W 610 with cylinders lengthened to handle the 10mm Magnum, while still being able to shoot the 10mm Auto is intriguing.

In an autoloader, STI has their 2011 double stack 10mm for those wanting a high capacity 1911 like pistol but they make the Sig P220 look petite in comparison.

Not sure if you've ever shot a Glock 20 but it's like holding on to a two by four. The grip is big and boxy (but it does hold 15 rounds of 10 mm, which is nice).

Just personal opinion, but I wouldn't own a Delta. The lack of case head support just doesn't make sense on a handgun you intend to shot rounds loaded at the very high end of pressure specs. I am sure there many Deltas out there with 1000s of round though them with zero problems, but I likely won't be the owner of one.

I love the G20, and I own a couple P220s in .45, also a very fine handgun.

I've been watching for a 10mm for a while now but other gun purchases keep getting in the way;)

I am pretty sure when I do pull the trigger, it will be a 1911 style. So although I do know Glocks to be very fine weapons, of those two I would have to go with the Colt.

Personally I've mostly been drooling over a Dan Wesson, just can't decide if a long slide or more standard length, they do several versions in a 10mm.

And now the Ruger SR1911 5" 10mm has caught my eye. Handled one and seemed really decent, especially for the price. And as I have a Ruger collection well on it's way, that is another reason for me to like it. Decisions decisions :)
I have the Ruger, and it is a fine shooter. Recoil is easy and it is very accurate & consistant!

I have had my rock island armory 10mm 1911 for years. I have carried it in every hunt in North America I have been on. I have used it to take hogs in Florida and I have taken deer I Georgia with it. I now have a trijicon rmr mounted on top. It’s accurate, it’s reliable and I just carry a spare mag for it and never worry about how much ammo I have

I've had all the 10mm pistols, and this one is the finest one I've ever handled. It makes full nuke loads feel like a .40 in a plastic gun. All stainless steel, shes just plain sexy. P220 Elite SAO

The Sig P220 is a perfected 1911.

Would you mind elaborating on that? I like 1911s and I like Sigs, currently I’ve got a P229 Legion DA/SA, P226 Legion SAO, P226 MK25 and P365 but do not own nor have ever handled a P220. I must say a 10mm P220 is a very tempting proposition.

Also I like the look of the new Kimber Rapide which is also available in 10mm.

Well, I didn't feel the way I do until I did get this Single Action P220. It reminds me of a 1911, the way it's made, the controls etc. But it feels better than a 1911, to me it shoots better than a Delta Elite or S&W 1006. The slide is smooth as glass, and they built it with the intention of shooting full power 10mm loads. Not sure of the weight on the recoil spring, but it feels like 24 lbs or more.
