COVID-19 Coronavirus UPDATES, BANS, CLOSURES, ADVISORY, etc.

In England today(Sunday,15.03.) , half-marathons with thousands of runners took place in Bath and Liverpool.
How intelligent do you have to be to participate (mildly formulated) (n).

For the Corona virus this must feel like an invitation to an "all you can eat" buffet

In an effort to adhere to US social distancing guidelines, I advised my wife I would not be able to assist in cleaning up the house today and would self-quarantine myself on the porch with a cigar and a cup of Joe. She immediately violated my 3 foot social spacing and smacked me with her unwashed hand. Some folks are just not taking the pandemic seriously.

In the Netherlands all schools, restaurants, pubs are now closed until at least the 6th of april. Also child daycare facillities unless you have a vital job (e.g. healthcare, public transport, food distribution etc). Every citizen needs to keep at least 1.5 meters distance from another.

Common sense and a miniscule amount of cranial acuity dictates stay home, lay low and let this thing blow over. It's just a matter of time. Put your life on hold temporarily and relax.

This is a good article that shows four models and how important social distancing is. Best and easiest to understand explanation I have seen.

I tend to be critical of the Washington Post but want to give them and other members of the mainstream media credit for uncovering their paywalls for their virus articles.

If 80% is considered a “vast majority” then the vast majority of the population will experience mild to no symptoms (numerous sources). Of the remaining 20% who have more noticeable symptoms, most of them will simply have a case of the flu. I am just an old soldier, but I would suggest that focusing containment on whole populations is ludicrous without even considering the ensuing economic chaos.

How about focussing isolation efforts (home, nursing homes, etc) on the most endangered. If over 75, have underlying immune deficiency issues, particularly lung related conditions (apparently emphysema especially) remain at “home” with designated and tested/cleared care givers bringing in food etc. They are the real critical target group - not the rest of the population.

This isn’t like the plague or a bio/virus weapon. It has a fairly specific target subset far easier to protect than the whole population. Yes, those people will become prisoners in their homes or care facilities for months to come. But that, would seem far better than holding hostage whole populations.

What a disaster.......

Talking with an er doc who said one of the highest risks for serious illness and/or death are smokers(sorry mort) especially those lifelong smokers. Couple that with poor diet (poverty) and inability to access quality healthcare (poverty). And high density housing (often poverty)-recipe for disaster. I think I’ll skip the marathons-and keep my family close by and laying low for awhile

One of the most germ-ridden and contagious things is money. Everyone uses it every day and I just had a brilliant idea as to how to eliminate this means of transmission. Why don't all of you nice people out there just send me all those nasty bills and filthy coins. I will be more than happy to dispose of them for you---free of charge. Imagine how much cleaner the world would be if I dispose of all that stuff.

Well, the hammer fell. No tourists from the US after 18 March. Let's all hope this can be kept under control.

The SA governments latest response is very bad for all safari operators (and hunters):

We are imposing a travel ban on foreign nationals from high-risk countries such as Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom and China as from 18 March 2020.

We have cancelled visas to visitors from those countries from today and previously granted visas are hereby revoked.

South African citizens are advised to refrain from all forms of travel to or through the European Union, United States, United Kingdom and other identified high-risk countries such as China, Iran and South Korea.

This is effective immediately.

Wow, I hope for the best for our outfitters in Africa....

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
