I’m back full time in Texas working at one of our gulf coast facilities. That can only mean two things, the Rat is ready to play and the hogs are gonna pay! Took these this week with the old M77 30-06 that recently had a facelift with a Boyds laminate stock and Meopro scope. The rifle has served me well over the last 40 years. Ammo was home rolled 165gr Hornady SP interlocks with a stiff dose of H4350.

Getum. Brother

Good stuff! Keep knocking them down!

Fun stuff Sand Rat! Hope to see you taking many more!

Killem all, big or small! Great job @SandRat!

Nice one SandRat.
If you don't mind me asking, what size Meopro does your Ruger wear? Are you satisfied with how it works, brightness, clarity, etc. I have been interested in a 6x42 fixed power from them and have not had a chance to look through the glass myself.

Cabelas Instinct 4.5-14x44 made by Meopta. Bought it back earlier in the year when they were on close out. Seems to help my old eyes in low light conditions.

Thanks, I was told they were nice and bright.

Sand Rat,
You must be hunting near the NASA facility, as that thing behind you looks like the nose cone of a re-entry vehicle. That and the meadow looks very flat - as in a coastal flat.

Keep up the good work with those 165 grain Hornady pills - I bought a 20 round box of 165 grain Super performance few years ago for my old M70 .308 and with 10 left, I have taken 8 critters, including a big Texas cow elk for meat.
One boar died noisy and took two rounds and last week I fired one to check scope zero. Taking it to the Panhandle first of May to punch out a Pronghorn buck and maybe another coyote or two.

PS , I do hunt the coastal flats with other rifles too - .405 WCF DR: just west of Corpus.

East Texas piney woods NW of Nacogdoches and if you’re not familiar with those it’s a capsule feeder. There easy to fill from the ground and those big boars can’t screw them up and knock the legs out from under em. For what it’s worth my wife did work for NASA for 30 years and she helps me fill it with corn.

When your wife fills the "space capsule" feeder, does she say something like.........."that's one small meal for hogs, one giant meal for mankind"

Has the Nacogdoches area got much rain? Houston is a mess right now. I-10 and I-45 are shut down.

She said they’ve had some but not like here in Houston. I work in Baytown and they sent us home at 11:00 due to flooding in the plant. Water levels are back down and operations are stable.

Took last week off for a little East Texas archery season action. I had been watching a nice high rack eight on the game cam since the late summer that looked plenty big enough to take. Only issue was a nicer 10 point mainframe with two kickers showed up out of the blue Friday morning week ago that I caught on the cam so I switched gears and hoped the eight point will make it through the gauntlet till next year. Got lucky and took the 12 pointer at 1800 last Saturday evening with my Excalibur Matrix 380 crossbow @ 35 yards. Wound up with the rest of the week to mow pastures and work around the in-laws on things that needed mending.

How do you like the Boyd's? Thinking about getting one for my LH Zastava.

Bought a “Kill Light” last week and having a frame made to hang it on. Mounted it to a 50 cal ammo can and made a rain guard to keep it dry. Should get it up next weekend, the hogs have gone nocturnal and I’ll have to switch tactics. Will post a pic of the rig when finished.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
