Got a chance to mess with the VEO 2 a little yesterday and my initial impression is that this stick is pretty slick. First, it’s extremely light and portable, and it does function as a decent walking stick with the legs folded up. The short tripod legs are very quick to deploy and found they provide a solid footing. The legs folded out are about 5” from the center pole and appear well built. The ball joint in the base was my biggest concern but it is also well built, not sloppy, and gives just enough movement to be useful for targeting or sitting on uneven ground without sacrificing stability. The ball joint was a bit stiff out of the box, but once I deployed the legs and moved the stick around in circles for a bit the joint loosened up a tad and smoothed out. There is no tension adjustment and don’t see that it would be practical in this design anyway. The leg is in three sections and the tightening rings only take about a quarter turn to release and secure the sections, . The rifle V head is removable, swivels 360 degrees, rubberized, and has a bunch of ribs on the inside of the V to hold you rifle from slipping. I really like this mount. Someone put some time into its design. The stick has a nice soft grip with wrist strap, both well made and functional.
Took my Mauser M12 9.3x62 and Daniel Defense Delta 5 308 win out to the back of our house and setup in multiple locations, sighting in on white tails grazing in a pasture 100-150 yards away. The Mauser is light, around 7 lbs, and the DD is heavier at around 10-11 lbs. Will get the CZ 550 300 win mag out, weighs a lot, and see how the stick handles that weight, though I think it will be fine. We live on a couple acres in the Texas Hill Country so our back yard (an acre or so) is rolling, i.e. not flat, though I wouldn’t call it rough by any means. Found the stick to provide good stability every place I setup and could have picked off white tail at will from it. I haven’t fired from it yet and will report back once I can take it to the range, but at this point I’m very optimistic that this stick is as Vanguard advertises and will do well in practical field use.
