I would recommend a set of Bog-Pod shooting sticks that will provide much better stabilization for about the same price.

We took a set just like this to Africa with us and our PH loved them, much more stable than the sticks he was using.
Also, if you don't take these on your safari, they are very similar to what most PH's use so you will be practicing with the correct equipment.

If you want to be a little more traditional, a little more compact, but also spend bit more...

And they come with a LIFETIME warranty!

Thank you very much. I looked at the Bog-Pod sticks and was going to go that route but they only collapsed down to 33" or so. I also looked at the traditional sticks you posted but they seemed kind of pricey. Vanguard makes a set of sticks very similar to the Bog-Pod as well. Going to give the stick I ordered a shot over the weekend and see how it does....it collapses down to 24" which means it will fit in my duffel bag where the Bog-Pod and Vanguard tripods won't. Will have see how easy it is to deploy. Video makes it look about as simple as it could be but want to see how it performs in real life. I assume if I like this non-traditional stick that my PH won't have a problem if I bring and use it.

I just checked my Bog-Pod sticks and they collapse down to 30" if you remove the "V" post (easy to do).
I know it's longer by 6", but it's not 9".

The ASC 3-piece sticks are pricey but I think that's the way I'm gonna go for the very reason you mentioned, space.
The ones I'm looking at collapse down to 26" which will fit perfectly in my luggage.

Good luck with the Vanguard VEO.

Thanks! I'll report back on the Vanguard once I get a chance to take it to the range....hopefully this weekend.

What happens if the ground is uneven? Maybe I missed something but it seems like the VEO 2 is set up more for range use than rough country.

The Jim Shockley Trigger Sticks are working well for me - after a ton of dry fire and and live fire, that is.

I’ll take a look once I get home from this business trip...the VEO 2 is at my house...all the marketing pieces say it’s designed for the field and many reviews said they’ve had it in the field and liked it...we’ll see how it goes and I’ll report back

The ball joint that connects the stick to the foot allows for uneven ground even if it was on a slope so it may work as advertised athough I feel the foot print is a bit minimal for real stability. I wonder if you will be able to alter the tension on the ball joint.

Got a chance to mess with the VEO 2 a little yesterday and my initial impression is that this stick is pretty slick. First, it’s extremely light and portable, and it does function as a decent walking stick with the legs folded up. The short tripod legs are very quick to deploy and found they provide a solid footing. The legs folded out are about 5” from the center pole and appear well built. The ball joint in the base was my biggest concern but it is also well built, not sloppy, and gives just enough movement to be useful for targeting or sitting on uneven ground without sacrificing stability. The ball joint was a bit stiff out of the box, but once I deployed the legs and moved the stick around in circles for a bit the joint loosened up a tad and smoothed out. There is no tension adjustment and don’t see that it would be practical in this design anyway. The leg is in three sections and the tightening rings only take about a quarter turn to release and secure the sections, . The rifle V head is removable, swivels 360 degrees, rubberized, and has a bunch of ribs on the inside of the V to hold you rifle from slipping. I really like this mount. Someone put some time into its design. The stick has a nice soft grip with wrist strap, both well made and functional.

Took my Mauser M12 9.3x62 and Daniel Defense Delta 5 308 win out to the back of our house and setup in multiple locations, sighting in on white tails grazing in a pasture 100-150 yards away. The Mauser is light, around 7 lbs, and the DD is heavier at around 10-11 lbs. Will get the CZ 550 300 win mag out, weighs a lot, and see how the stick handles that weight, though I think it will be fine. We live on a couple acres in the Texas Hill Country so our back yard (an acre or so) is rolling, i.e. not flat, though I wouldn’t call it rough by any means. Found the stick to provide good stability every place I setup and could have picked off white tail at will from it. I haven’t fired from it yet and will report back once I can take it to the range, but at this point I’m very optimistic that this stick is as Vanguard advertises and will do well in practical field use.

Reporting back on the VEO 2 after using it at the range yesterday. It supported my rifles and shooting from the stick worked fine, BUT not from a straight up, free standing position. Kneeing or sitting where the stick is up to around half extension max shot out to 100 yards no problems, at full extension you can’t get stable enough for accurate shots at that distance. It would probably work fine standing if you were bracing your back against a tree or something but not in the open with the wind blowing. Will use this in a stand or blind, but not open field/stalking.

How much wind?

That's more than enough to make it really hard, regardless of the type of sticks you are using. If there's a technique for shooting from standing, in the wind, I've not found it.

Just returned from Namibia three weeks ago, stuffed a new Bog pod in my pelican rifle case. Already a bog pod being used by another hunter at the farm. Over 6 trips to Africa, I have shot off about every set of sticks imaginable including home made wooden tree limbs and an inner tube wrap...pretty good....to Shockey sticks. Bog pods have worked best for me. Try setting up in a side hill shot without a bog pod style set and it is not very easy. My side hill had one of the legs shorter by half the other fully extended and the third leg by 2/3. I like the bog pods. Lots of the sticks that a ph may have available are well worn, maybe loose or other damaged. Just bring your own After you have practiced off the .....a lot.

Ordered a set of the 4 Stable Sticks, Mountain Stick version. Look very stable. If they work as well as reviewers have said, I’ll be taking those along in my duffle bag.

I have used or better yet, tried to use them once. All the PHs I have had use a tri legged, tri pod style set of sticks, must be a good reason. Just practice with whatever you are going to use.

The reason is that it's simple.

FYI - These sticks don't allow you to move left to right very much.
So as an animal is walking and you are waiting it to present a shot due to brush/trees/other animals...you have to reset the sticks.
Tripod with pivoting V-notch is much quicker...and more simple.
Just my .02 cents.

Primos Trigger Sticks or BOG POD...take your pick, because all they do is work.
If you want to move up a notch, African Sporting Creations has awesome sticks...and comes with a LIFETIME warranty!!!

Thanks....thought I'd give these sticks a shot and if they don't work out for me they have a satisfaction guarantee. I'll go with one of the ones you suggested if these are a bust. Thanks again!!

Whatever you do decide on...practice with it until it's natural.
Practice, practice, practice...it pays off come Safari time.

My wife and I made shots off sticks we were not capable of just 6 months prior.
We practiced for 18 months leading up to our Safari, EVERY WEEK!
Practice with what you want to use...it works.

I've only got 7 months, but am practicing every week :)
