OR Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg), is now enforcing new checked bag rules which state that bags must follow the following criteria in order to be checked in:

Bags must be regular-shaped with at least one flat surface. In addition bags with long straps or handles will not be allowed.

But don't worry - you don't need to buy all new luggage. There are baggage wrapping stations at the airport which will (for a fee) wrap your bags according to these new rules. Or save yourself a few bucks and some time, and get them ready at home.

This is what I purchased to use this year with the new requirement changes. It is actually a carry-on from Harbor Freight. I’ll see if it holds up in the cargo area. My Pelican ammo box fits well along with a change of clothes, toilet kit, extra socks and underwear, small gifts, etc.

I have a pelican suitcase pretty similar to that, I am glad I used it last year, by the time I got my luggage that was stuck in Johannesburg, it was beat to hell. I can't imagine a normal, soft sided, bag could have survived.

I am getting the Pelican suite case after my last trip. My roller duffle looked like crap after trip back this year. In Atlanta we had weather delay of 5 hours for connecting flight and they must have left our luggage out side the entire time. When we arrived in Houston and collected bags there was water dripping out my duffle. Everything in it was soaked

I got mine at a midway USA Black Friday sale, it was about half price.

So on my gun case I have a lock in every hole. On my ammo case I have tsa locks in side my check bag. Now I have a hard side checkbag with the ability to lock up with two or three more padlocks what locks do I put on this master or tsa locks?

How to pick a TSA lock with a paper clip.

Master locks on gun case, TSA locks on ammo case.

I’d recommend TSA, because TSA will cut your locks to check the ammo box when their dog smells it, so to get to the ammo box they will cut the non TSA locks on your checked baggage. JMO

I have the pelican suitcases and they are great but heavy. You’ll have to limit your packing a bit. I am using the heavy duty TSA locks now on my gun case. If they want in they’ll get in but at least they don’t have an excuse to leave my gun. Always a debate.

Just remember that locks are there for the honest people. If a crook wants your bag or rifle case they are going to take your bag or rifle case.

Locks are just a feel good type of thing. And when they are placed on a bag closed with a zipper it is almost comical.

Do you have any concern about using the TSA locks on the actual gun case? I accidentally used one last year on a trip, they called me within 10 minutes and I had to go change out the lock to a non-TSA lock.

And the hits just keep on coming! :Arghh::ROFLMAO:

I used TSA locks on my first trip and soon as we were out of US authority they were cut off for inspection, never used them again!

Damn, it gets better every post! I'll give TSA locks one positive. They're a step up from zip-ties. :p:LOL:

Once your bags are out of US control the security people don't have keys in other countries so now I just put snaps through the zippers or pins on my bow case.
