Show Me Your 375 Caliber Buffalo!

Did those buffalo not get the memo that they're not supposed to die from being shot with a push feed rifle???:sneaky:

Every Whitworth I have seen was a cf rifle.

Push feed ammo.:D

Not sure about Remington solids, but the old Core Lokt did a fairly good job on pg back in the day.

I sure wish some other makers would start making 375 and 416 Ruger ammo! Would be nice to have some factory loads with Swift or Barnes bullets. Another reason I handload I guess.. .
Nice bull!

There are makers you can order from. I just received my shipment from Hendershots this week for my .416 ruger. 400 grn. TSX and 400 grn Northfork solids. They run from $100 to $150 per box. Of course handloads will be less.

Good to hear. I do handload myself, so I'm all set. But it's nice to have other options if needed.

PH was a German named Kurt Zeigler working for Wengert Windrose Safaris, Franz Wengerts outfit. Basic area was in and around Mto Wa Mbu. Arusha was where we flew into. Many moons ago.

Think he was talking about the Win 70. The Rem solids back then were copper over steel jackets and a good bullet.

Quality outfit. Wish hunts were still available at those rates.(y)

Don't we all! It was my first hunt there and would be at least a 30K hunt today. With airfare it was under 10K then with an observer included.

Looks like .375 is the go. Ive only shot one and enjoyed it. I havent any big game experience but i know its the minimum DG cal in most places.
I bought a new.458win mag on clearance but feel the .375 H&H is a classic and would be all o need when i do travel.

Bigger is better, until you can’t handle it instinctively.

For me, a warm, but not hot .375 load is that sweet spot between power and handling.
Yes, I can shoot heavier calibers, second shot accuracy and time suffer greatly though.
Give me a few more years, and another 1k of .375 practice, and I will probably pick up a .416

I have never been in a situation where my .375 felt lacking though.

P.s. fully aware that if someone does find themselves in a situation where they need a .416 over a .375, they may not survive to learn.

My buf last year head on with one shot from Win 70 375HH. Barnes 350 TSX. He went about 75-80 yards and we found him stone dead. Never recovered the slug. Tore him all up inside.

Buff taken with my Ruger Alaskan 375 Ruger. One Woodleigh soft through the neck at about 40 to 50 yards, he ran maybe 100 yards or so, collapsed bleeding profusely, 4 Hornady DGS through the shoulders just to make sure of him and he expired without any further drama. Malapati concession, Zim.

Regrettably, I have no information to add, but I will be very interested to see everyone's results. I'm going through endless debate in my mind if I want to go the .375 or .416 (or .404) route.
I’ve read heaps, the proof is in the pics above.
I own a .458 win mag and debate rechambering to Lott,
I’ve got the bug but not the budget, I’ve been hunting pigs with it but in hindsight I’d just have a ..375 H&H, feeding issues, versatility, classic and common.
I will hunt Buff in Australia or save for Africa, it’s achievable but I have other priorities for now.
Loving the Cape Buff pics and some nice .375s in the mix.

Very nice, I believe I have the same scope and rifle. I just have a phosphate finish and a synthetic stock.

Metetsi region of Zimbabwe, 2005 using my .375 RUM Rem 700 with a 300 grain Barnes TSX at 2830 fps. About a 50 yard broadside shot that entered his left shoulder, went through his chest cavity, and we found it in his right shoulder. A perfect Barnes mushroom. He ran about 50 yards and collapsed.
