SOUTH AFRICA: Back From Kwa-zulu Natal What A Trip

Very nice !

Glad to see you had a good trip , congrats !

South Africa

South Africa is a great place to hunt. I have been several times with a couple differnt outfitters.
I enjoyed my time with Clint Taylor at Twende Safaris the best. He runs a great camp in the Limpopo. Concession is on the Limpopo River. We saw some amazing animals. Understand he had some Australian clients that came in after me that smashed some nice trophies!
Great camp, great trophies and a top notch professional hunter that knows his business!
If you want to hunt SA check him out. He also has a really nice taxidermy studio that will
be doing my trophies the next time! Check him out on the web or on FB.

Nice Plug for Twende!

Well I have to update those of you who have followed this story, with all of the problems that I ended up having with Dirk Terblanche in regards to getting my trophies back from him after my return home, I am happy to report that with great help from a good friend in KZN he was able to get all of my trophies picked up from the outfitter/PH/ property owners and he was able to secure all of the proper permits to export/import them and he had them dipped and shipped back to me in the states. They will be going to my taxidermist next week. Hopefully everything with them are fine and the capes do not have hair slippage so the mounts turn out well.

It is not often that such a bad situation turns out as well as this one did for me. I owe everything to my friend John in KZN What he did for me with getting my trophies handled properly I can never repay him. His kindness is appreciated more than any words can express. My sincere thanks go out to him again.

After all of the problems that I had with this past trip I am also happy to report that I plan on returning to SA in 2013 to take a crack at getting several of the animals that I did not get while on my first trip. I am working out all of the details to hunt with a very reputable outfitter, I am really looking forward to my next safari.

Great to hear! To be honest I never thought your would see them again. But I am glad it worked out!!!

Thats Great News! Be sure to post some pics of the Mounts once you get them back I'm glad you didn't let that one get you down, Good luck on your next hunt.

So, Bruinmaster the score is:

Friend: ONE

Outfitter/PH: ZERO!

Thanks for the note here. It is good to let the crew here know that a bad experience can be reversed. A big attaboy goes to the Park Board for being very helpful with the permits, including one that needed a permit before you pulled the trigger. You had some nice animals. Let me know what you are looking for, if it is in KZN I can give you some heads up.

great trophies! i just love the reedbuck,it would be great to hunt one of these:cool:

I liked the reedbuck also. These are very common in KZN and VERY easy to hunt. They like open fields during the day, often laying down.

Looks like you had a good trip, July 13 for me. I'm also heading to the KZN. I'll be hunting with Chamanzi Zulu Safaris for the second time.

I would definitely go back to KZN to hunt,It is absolutely beautiful, just not with the PH/Outfitter i went with. I had a great trip all things considering. Good Luck and I hope you have an enjoyable trip.

Good luck 1/2 slam. I would go back in a heartbeat too, the edge of the Drakesburg mountains was gorgeous country to hunt. If I go again I will defintely have to plan to hunt Zululand for Red Duiker though.

1/2 slam, good luck and have a great time. I'll be hunting KZN with Harloo Safaris starting July 10th. Most of the time will be at their base near Pongola with a couple days near Winterton hunting the Drakensburg Mountains.

You have picked a class place to go to. We have a family Easter hunt every year here. It is a fun camp.

Saeng, glad to hear from someone that has hunted Harloo. I've never hunted with them but everyone I've talked to that has, speaks very highly of them. Sounds like you will be there this weekend. Please tell Edmond & Brian hello and I'm looking forward to seeing them in July. Have a great Easter hunt.

Bruinmaster,
So very happy to hear you got some help retrieving your trophies and now can put that fiasco behind you.
Congrats Man!

I drove past their operation last time. You will not be far from me. Good luck and have fun.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got a couple photos from the taxidermist today, My mounts are finally getting completed and I should be getting them soon. I absolutely love the Nyala. The Impala, reedbuck and the Nyala will ultimately be going together on a pedestal mount. I did not get a picture of the Zebra rug. The taxidermist is currently finishing up working on the Gemsbok. For those of you who inquired about the length and bases on the Gemsbok he was 32 1/2 and 33 inches and 7 3/4 inch bases. Can't wait to get these animals home and in their spots in my Man Cave!

For those of you who followed my horror story with getting these trophies back to me after my safari this is why I never gave up hope... These are beautiful trophies that I am very proud of. What great memories they will kindle for years to come.

Thanks again to saeng101 for all of his help... Without him these trophies would never have made their way back to me. I owe him everything. Thanks again John. I will be going back to SA this may/June to hunt at Koedoeberg and hopefully get a chance at the "Grey Ghost" and a few other plains game that eluded me on my first trip.

Take care everyone.
