Have been thinking a Sako maybe. I know the mainstream brands for the most part. The question really is geared for guys who know of good guns outside of Model 70's, xbolts, etc. I'm sure there will be a clear consensus!

in case my wife accidentally reads this i may or may not be looking for a new rifle myself, there is a good chance i can get in the house, in the safe and be able to say "had it for years, quit being so silly"
I was looking at the Tikka T3, likely in 30-06, i have a Tikka in 300WM and love it, but want to have something for my moose hunt in 2019
I figured they are reasonably priced and would likely have to spend the same amount on glass to put on it

You can get a SAKO Hunter for just a few dollars under the 2k mark, a Baverian for a few dollars under or about $50 over and a Classic for about $50 over. Deluxe and Classic Deluxe about a grand more and up. The Safari will set you back about 9k. I own 3 Classics - 308, 300Wm, 375H&H and 1 Bavarian - 7mm-08. The 375 is a little light, but with a 30mm scope it get close to ideal.

I'm a M70 guy, but for your criteria I think I'd also at least give Kimber a look. I've never owned one, but have drooled a little bit over them from time to time.

CZ makes a hell of a rifle for well under the $2K mark including up and into the DG calibers.
Maybe not the "best" rifle for less than $2K, but a true value to say the least.

And they make a stainless model for people like Phil who have drooling problems.

Many of the used Brno rifles are less and they are great.

Oh no you didn't just bring up used firearms.
This is a whole different can of worms.

A few weeks ago I would have said Sako most likely, but after handling a Bergara Premier Series rifle for a few weeks, I am absolutely sold on them. An outstanding rifle for just under 2k.

Oops:oops:

But, they are hard to beat:D

Mauser M12. Reliable, accurate, handles well, superb Mauser action and smooth operation.
Available with a variety of stocks to suit all budgets.

Sako's are great rifles for sure in the right under $2000 price point, and as Phil said earlier so are Kimbers.

And synthetic stocks too!

Custom action, 925; barrel, 325; trigger,150; stock, 200, gunsmithing 250, custom gun that will shoot rings around anything mass produced, $1850-2000. It would be a cold day in hell before I spent 2k for a factory, mass produced rifle.

pm me for more info.

I like the Montana Rifle Co. rifles. $1500- $1900. Tactical and some other specialty rifles are higher. Sako is probably my number two.

Love my Sako and best of all, I got it new for $118

Why not take the 300 Win for moose?

I'm not too sure on Kimbers. There's A LOT of mixed reviews on them. M70 is always a solid choice. I'm thinking sort of the next step up or 2 from a M70. thanks

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
