I feel like I need a reintroduction....as its been a while. I'm a middle aged father to 4. Married to my high school sweetheart some 20 years now. Professional wood artisan, holder of a college degree in history (Go Rutgers!), brewer of beer, sailboat owner, gardener, musician, world traveler, general lover of life. Most importantly, life long outdoorsman, seems like my favorite times are either spent with a rod in my hand, shotgun, or rifle. I've also shared this with my 4 kids, and tried to pass it down. Been lots of places in the world, and always felt the call to hunt Namibia. For some reason or another just never managed to get there. You know the usual, jobs, kids, houses, other responsibilities. I'd like to pass on some wisdom that I've been imparted by some of our forum mates. Don't wait for tomorrow, it's better to go when you are young and healthy....Carpe Diem. Life is unpredictable. Those words ring true. I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia this year at 44! While I am relatively healthy for now and don't need chemo just yet...I live in a new reality. Apart from healthcare costs alone, One which probably does not include Africa. If you want to do something do it while you can. Eat drink and be merry....

Welcome back to AH 115grfmj!

:S Welcome:

Glad to hear you’re healthy! Now go make your own memory.

Take that advise to heart.

Welcome back

Welcome back! Life is full of bumps, but you have to learn to enjoy the good times to the fullest! Spending time teaching your kids has to be one of the grandest action adventures of all!
Be strong!

Welcome back @115grfmj
My best wishes for your continued health and happiness.

I hope you fully recover and can make that trip someday. Welcome back. My dad used to lay the same thing on us as young adults in different words. He would say, "if you're not doing what you want to do now, when are you going to?" Not always easy to live by that, but it makes perfect sense. Good luck.

Welcome back. My wife is actually recovering nicely from breast cancer, so I understand living in a new reality!

I wish you the best, and above all, be optimist, it helps a lot.

Yes sir welcome back. I wish you a speedy recovery, I have always lived by that rule. I going to do what I want now because tomorrow is not promised to anyone. I have been fortunate as an average man to have done a bit of hunting and rarely regret my decisions. My wife is currently battling cancer and has always lived conservatively and has worried about everyone and everything. There are thing she has never done and now may never get that chance. I wish you the best.

Welcome back! Best wishes moving forward!

Well stated, Perseverance and Prayer will get you there. Make a plan and get to Namibia!

Thank you gents! This really is the best group of people on the internet. Right now what I'm looking most fwd to is a summer spent at our little place on Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes, with the flyrod in hand. Followed by a fall spent walking the fields and mature oak groves on the east side of the Manasquan near my home, with my broken open 20ga in the crook of my arm. Chicken soup for this guy's soul.

Welcome back, good luck in your journey.

'Don't wait for tomorrow' - let's start planning to get you and your family to Namibia. It is the best medicine available and more affordable than you think. Stay healthy

Welcome to our place where friends are made and information shared.

Figure out a way to get to Namibia, take your family with you, that is something that nobody can ever take away from any of you. That memory will live on well after you are gone. I have no advice on how to make it happen, my financial planning skills suck, but you will never regret the trip, I’d put money on that!
Cheers,
Cody
