Hallo folks,

What a pleasure to stumble upon this forum, and what a privilege to be able to join. So much knowledge and wisdom at the touch of one's fingertips.

I look forward to learning and dare I say it -contributing a bit here and there if I could add value.

I grew up hunting on our family farm, where I still live. I took my first antelope when I was 8 years old with my father's BSA 30-06 and have been in love with Africa, hunting and firearms since.

I have the pleasure of spending the majority of my free time in the African veldt and enjoy every second of it.
I also hold dedicated hunting and sport shooter status in South Africa and have a particular fondness for the .30 caliber range of firearms. Besides firearms I have a keen interest in the Rhodesian Ridgeback hound, 5 of which hold me company on my walks on the farm.

I look forward to being a part of this forum, and if I may be so bold , I thank you all in advance for having me.

Welcome to AH sir.

Welcome aboard Jp 1001. Please tell us a little more about yourself. Like where do you live? What have you hunted in the past? What kind and caliber rifles do you own? Do you reload? Based on your "intro" I'm willing to bet that you probably have a lot to offer.

Welcome to Ah Jp 1001! Looking forward to your contribution.

Welcome! Would love to see a photo of your hounds.

Welcome, please share some stories.

Dear Jp 1001 - Welcome to the best FORUM on the Net...

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone.

@Shootist43 - I have various rifles and I tend to go through periods where I am obsessed with one - currently a 70s vintage Brno .270 which I handload for. I am going on a plains game hunt in the Eastern Cape of South Africa in August. There will be some longer range shooting involved -so for the moment it is practise practise practise!

A little while ago I worked on a 30-06 project, where I wanted to get a rifle that was light to carry, quite robust and practical in all weather conditions. I decided on a Mossberg Patriot and put a Warrior silencer on it and a Nikko Sterling scope. By far the cheapest ‘project’ I have done- which made the wife happy. And by far the most practical rifle set-up I own for my day-to-day tasks that it makes me rather happy also.

I live in the North-West of South Africa, near a town called Koster. In summer we have a lot of dust, this plays havoc with some lf the tighter tolerances on the more expensive firearms not designed for my part of the world. I am on and off Quad bikes daily, and as mentioned walking a lot in the bush and on dirt paths - the fine red dust here gets into everything. With the Mossberg I don’t have to clean it as often as the Brno for example and it functions perfectly.

I recently purchased a 7 x57 Mauser made by Musgrave in RSA. The rather lengthy licensing process is running it’s course- I am of course terribly excited at getting to grips with the Musgrave.

I will attempt to upload some general photos I have on my phone about life on the farm.
