Advice for a maybe hunt in Australia

Just arrived at practice if you wish to ring

Anyone have any recommendations for outfitters in either country?

Another consideration could be firearm permits. I like to hunt with my own rifle, so just getting one rifle into one country may be a better option.

You won't do better than Simon Kyle Little in OZ....he's the real deal. Australian Big Game Safaris.

In NZ check out Gerald Fluerty of Wildside Hunting Safaris....

Considerably easier getting firearms into NZ! Not impossible in OZ by any means but it can get expensive with all the additional flights.

I havent hunted autralia but someday what to.
But My wife and I have spent 16 days in NZ and as others have said it is wonderful and beautiful. We much prefered the south island. If you what to hunt I would also suggest the south island as the Tahr and the Chamios are found in the mtns of the south island not the north. I shot the stag at Glendene Station in my avatar it is like 510sci. Glendene is owned by my friend Richard Burdon and has been in his family for generations it is a huge station and is on Lake Wanaka just outside queenstown. basically he owns the whole lake and mtns around it. He has any and all hunting you want any way you want aka hike, helicopter, atv and hike , etc. he has high fence stags and free range also and the place is 5 star. If you go and are nice to him he just may take you duck and swan shooting as he loves waterfowl hunting and paradise duck and black swans are on the menu! get to use good ol lead shot too!
If you hunt australia please do post a report as it is on my bucket list!
If you want Richards info PM me.

Thanks, if I can swing it I will most definitely write up a report! I am going to Namibia in 2018, so back-to-back hunts may be a challenge:unsure:....I like a challenge:D

Listen to Dr Ray. My nephew saw a water buff take a 400 solid quartering on into the chest from a 404 Jeff . It took off, never to be seen again. They can be tough; they can be aggressive, and they can be BIG.
The worst part of the whole thing will be the flight, hours, and hours, and hours. But when you get to either place; well worth it!

Sounds like you have got your hands full with making the bid decision between the two, if you end up leaning towards Australia we can look after you . A few years back we had a couple from France who are AH members hunt with us and he done a lot of filming ( Harve Corpet ) spelling could be off . He also put up a post with film about his hunt , if you can't find it the it's on our web page www.bighornsafari.com.au . We also offer all 6 Deer species in Australia or could hook you up with our partners in NZ for a Stag . What ever way you lean will be a great trip ! Good luck

The good news is my daughter is going to law school.(y) The bad news (for daddy) is that she is going to law school in Australia.:( its a long haul down under.:E Crying:

When I visit I am thinking I should use the trip to realize a dream of hunting in Australia or New Zealand. I am attracted to the idea of a Buffalo hunt. But, Red stag in New Zealand would also be really great.

If I assume I will only be in that part of the world once, and considering cost too, what hunt should I consider? Or, should I consider something else entirely? Is there a better hunt to experience the outdoors in one of these great countries? Outfitter recommendations would also be greatly appreciated.

If I can swing it, I will do it in 2019. Thanks for any advice with this plan:D.
It depends on what you're after,

If it doesn't bother you that the estate reds in NZ spent most of their lives as velvet producing farm animals go for it. Not a criticism but that's simply the reality of hunting those animals.

I've diy hunted tahr a few times, absolutely one of the great hunts left in the world for adventure.

Australia if you want to buff hunt, I'm sure you'd have a blast, it's about $10,000 though which is why the average Aussie never gets one.

If you want a true wilderness hunt and a real challenge head to the Victorian high country and chase sambar. Over a million acres of playground which allows you to get as remote as you like. Cost is a $40 license and you're good to go. If you end up being down around the time I'm hunting you could tag along and see if we couldn't get you something. Otherwise happy to offer advice on it
