Buying a game farm

Not the first time I've heard this. Won't be the last either.

Yep - this is terrible indeed.

It was always gong to be the last gasp of a corrupt ANC... and the end of the rule of law, international investment, and the possibility of a good future for my homeland.

I pray they see reason before it all goes to hell...

I wonder if any of the change and push back against liberal government in the west will somehow translate to Africa?

I would guess not? Would love to hear some opinions from SA.

Zuma's words could very well cause much blood loss in RSA. I pray it will not come to pass. I have many friends there and I hate to think of them being harmed or to have their property taken from them.

I know that Namibia will not let you immigrate and aliens cannot deposit money in a cd there..Last yr they were paying as much as 7.5% while we are a bit lower, lol.

Since this thread has been revived, you must remember that not all the countries are the same as Zim and RSA.
We have recently bought a house in Pretoria, no doubt it will be safe and will not be taken away, i dont think however that i would buy into a large plot of land or a game farm.
Zim probably speaks for itself!
Land in Zambia is available and the investment incentives are fairly decent. Although "african" time certainly has been perfected here when it comes to certain processes.
There are 2 blocks of land i am going to be inquiring about in the next few weeks, one is +-10,000ha and the other is +-23,000ha. As if i didnt have enough headaches to deal with... o_O:LOL::mad:

I dont know much about Nam and Bots but they seem to have their ducks in a row better than many of the southern african countries.

Will do, certainly does depend on whether is is on title already, developed or not etc.
These are all the hair pulling details and negotiations that i will need to go through shortly!

hurry up would you!! :E Big Grin:

Is it actually feasible for someone from a different country to be able to buy land in South Africa, Namibia, or Botswaina. Me and my wife have a lifetime government pension from the US federal government so we could take the risk and not end up in the poor house. Hell the government could have it back when I kick the bucket.
We had a game farm group speak to us at one of our Texas Exotic Wildlife Assn. meetings a while back and they were soliciting both investors in their projects and buyers for properties. A partnership might be the best way to go so you have someone who knows the country and laws. But bottom line the answer is yes. I would love to own a big place in Namibia!
Regards,
Philip

My father thought there would be problems in Kenya, Rhodesia, and South Africa in the decades after independence. He didn't think it wise to buy a farm in those countries. Too many whites owning too much of the productive land would cause animosity and racial tension.

As Pete said, other countries are probably better options for a large holding.

Mwalima was a voice in the desert five years ago. Now Zuma in trying times is appealing to the same growing contingent.

Never trust a politician. Never ever trust an African politician. Remember TIA.

If buying a farm in many African countries, it might be wise to set up a legal entity in a place like Hong Kong or Singapore to own the farm. That way there might seem to be a pretext that it is owned by a Chinese organization with white local management.

Be careful. Most first world countries are making it more difficult to deal in foreign transactions. They also scrutinize finances for tax evasion much closer now than the past.

Definitely smart words to live by for sure.

Why don't you just find a nice apartment in one of the coastal cities where you can comfortably live and you can utilize quick trips like the local hunters. The places you like to go can call you when someone drops out or they just having something great knowing you are already there and can move quickly. You can probably find plenty of PH owners who would love to have an extra set of hands whenever they are doing the fun sounding stuff like moving game. You could become a helo pilot as a business involved with game ranches and parks. If everything falls apart there you can pack out easily and someone will always want to buy your aircraft and easier to move an apartment in Durban than giant farm in Limpopo.
