Gidday - What do you think of the Hornady Interbond 165 gr projectiles ? I am going to start using them in my .300 mag. See how they group at the range soon.
Cheers - Simon

I like the Interbond bullet, I shoot the 180 Interbonds in my 300 Win Mag. They should be very deadly for the game in New Zealand.

My bet is the 180 grain will fly better than the 165, (of course depending on your rifle) I'd test both though if you like the bullet.

We just tested Barnes(TTSX,TSX,MRX), Nosler, Corelokt all 180's and the best result was the 180 grain Barnes TTSX BT.

3/4 inch groups at 100 yards (not from a bench)

Did not get around to your specific bullet, we gave up when we found one what worked in the rifle.
Tell me how your tests go and we may have to give them a try in the other 300 when we get back from SA.

Any particular reason for the Hornady? Woodleigh make a 180gr protected point specifically for the 300 Mag and it as a real performer. It's knocked over loads of pigs at home as well as rusa and fallow and in Africa it's taken everything up to Hartmann's Mountain Zebra and sable as well as a stack of others. I'm driving them at 2,950fps.

Thought about the Barnes TTSX , mates using them in his .308 , good grouping. See how these Hornady do. Can always buy more and blow them into hillside behind the range !!!

Gidday mate - Never heard of the Woodleigh in good old New Zealand , sound deadly. Some brands of projectile and powder are getting hard to get here. What powder are you using ? Thanks - Simon

Hey Simon, I have a feeling that those interlocks will break up upon impact. Especially 165gr coming out of a 300 Win Mag? Just dont think that they will be able to stay together. I thing that you will be better off using TSX if you want to go light for calibre. At one stage I was using interlocks, heavy for calibre 180's in the .308. Obviously the velocity of 180's out of a .308 was very tame, but had a couple of break ups with them. Since then , I changed to TSX 130's and have never looked back. Shoots flat with no chance of break up. What more can a guy ask for. I you ask me, those 165's TSX in the 300 will be sweet.

Best Regards

Simon you need to pay attention to what Marius has to say and I will tell you why, I just returned from a Black Bear Hunt in Quebec that I bought for my wife at a Catch a Dream Foundation fund raiser I wanted this to be a special hunt for her as it is her first Black Bear hunt so I bought her her own big game rifle as well in a Marlin 30-06 I do all of my own reloading (factory ammo dosn't compare) and she was shooting groupes of 4 that could be covered with a Quarter at 100 yards using 165gr Hornady Interbond minimum charge of 53gr of powder. On the second day of the hunt a really nice bear came out 400+ class she took aim and fired but could not see the very small sapling in her scope and it costed her that bear I got it on film an in slow motion you could see it explode. Two days later she was able to get another shot at a smaller Black Bear with no brush in the way, when it was field dressed the damage looked like she was using hollow points. if what you want is target ammo or shooting smaller game 150 lbs class than they will do fine but I would recommend the 165gr GMX or Barnes TSX for bigger game.

Ok I have a couple of questions?
Marius? You mention interlock bullets? I am not sure if you ment interlock or interbond?.....they are two different bullets made by hornady. The interlock is not a good bullet for larger game. Whitetail, Impala, Blesbuck they are fine. Elk, wildebeest, moose....no way! They are not constructed the same as the interbond.

I just returned from my hunt in SA and I used the 180gr interbond. I shot 5 animals from 60-210 yards. The bullet performed like a dream. All one shot kills. The longest was my Gemsbuck at 210 and the shot was high but he still went down. Blue wildebeast was about 100 yards. He went about 25 yards and droped. I recovered the bullet in the skin on the off shoulder. It was perfect. Nothing left of the lungs.

As far as weight? I agree with the guys above...go to 180gr. Better punch at impact. I am assuming you will hunt with these bullets? or just shooting?

Thanks fellers , I know what you all saying. Yes it is the ''Interbond'' I have already ordered. Two mates are using them in their .300 win and weatherby mag , with good results. Biggest game here I hunt for are Red stags and Bull Tahr , sometimes the stags will be close , but the Tahr could be out to 500 yards. Will give them a go , mates using Barnes TTSX ? in his .308 , he has only shot Wallabys so far ( about a 20 kg animal ) it blows them over OK !! The .300 is probley one of the biggest calibers we use down here , some hunters use .375 but with no dangerous game here , appart from wild boars , with pig dogs hanging off their ears and balls , there is nothing that fights back. Keep the comments coming - Cheers Simon
