SOUTH AFRICA: My African Safari Hunt With Kubusi Safaris

Very nice Kudu and a good shot.
Congratulations.

Monkey gland sauce chips. Been there..... Something in a name.

At dinner Pete and I were talking he told me he wouldn't of let 90 % of his clients take that shot I asked why he let me he said he knew I could make it I told him he had more faith in me then I did

Pete must have seen your target at 200 yards from the sticks....

And those Simba chips are good!

That is a monster Gemsbuck. Way to go! Very nice East Cape Kudu. You took some excellent trophies. I'd say your safari was a great success. Well done. Bruce

Great report on a great hunt. Congratulations!

We get to sleep in this morning we don't have to leave till 8:00 at breakfast Pete offers us the chance to go to a nice Seafood restaurant if we get the Warthog in time for lunch I tell him I'm not that excited about warthogs it wouldn't bother me if we don't get one. He stated that it's on my package and the owner doesn't like it if they don't get all the animal on the package. So we drive to the coast and I mean the coast the property has about 30 miles of coast line on it we pull up to the ranch house. The whole family are outside as the owner got a new drone he is playing with. It was fun meeting them all also watching them interact it would have been the same as if it was my family the boy's telling dad what he was doing wrong mom telling him how much that thing cost and to not crash it. LOl
We picked up the tracker and headed into the property. We start seeing all the usually animals we come around a corner and this guy is just staring at us he looked like he could stare holes through you
full

We start seeing some Warthogs but only Females with young Pete says not to worry this property is crawling with them. We stalk a few open fields
full

Still seeing the wrong ones. The wind comes up and temps drop the sighting of warthogs goes way down. So we head into the thicker bush where they can get out of the wind. we stalk up to a couple of water hole that are in the thick stuff only females. This place is crawling with Nyala.
full

Christine gets a stern warning about leaving the truck when we are stalking either she can come with us or stay put because of the cape buffalo.
we don't go a quarter mile when these 3 buffalos start chasing the truck.
full

We lose them and go about a half mile when the tracker from the property wants us to stop and stalk up to another water hole Pete tells him we aren't getting out of the truck with the buffs being so active and it's a good thing we would of walk into a heard of about 20 of them.
By the way i haven't told you how much I hate ostriches they have screwed up more stalks then anything else this week .
full

So now the wind is really blowing and we aren't seeing anything I tell pete I'm fine if I don't get a hog. so we start heading back to the Ranch house.
full

The view from it.
full

As we get close the tracker taps on the roof and there is a hog not far from it.

He says it's and old female they want out of the herd Pete makes him call the game manager to check to make sure it's ok to shoot it and we get the thumbs up. so we drive around the house and into the driveway and park we go through the garage and out the back door of it Pete sets up the sticks as he is doing this we get an audience one of the sons and his wife come out to watch If I pushed back with my foot it would touch the wall of the house. So she is about 100 yards down hill when i get on the sticks she is looking up at us with all the people milling around I have a good shot top the top of her head but I kind of liked the skull mount on the bar at Tuskers so I didn't want to take her there so I figured I'd sneak one in under her chin into her chest. At the shot I see something fly and she drops in her tracks. As we make our way down to her Pete starts telling me he is sorry as he could of sworn that she had 2 tusks. I tell him i think I might of shot it off. I forgot my rifle is sighted in at 200 making it about 2 inches high at 100 opps. We found the tusk but a skull mount was out of the question. This pig was the most decrepit thing i had ever seen she had no meat left on her her skin just kind od flow flat her head was the only thing big left about her.
full

The body is still attached to the head and you can't see it.
so we loaded her up said our goodbyes and headed into town for lunch.
Pete dropped us off at Ocean basket in Port Alfred told the wait staff to call him and let him know when we were done he was going home to see his wife and Grand daughter. He informed us to stay in the restaurant and not wander around because of crime. We got a table on the river and had a dozen oysters for an app. we split the Seafood platter for 2 which had prawns ,mussels, calamari 2 ways and fish plus chips and saffron rice. then we had dessert or should I call it Puddin I also had a couple of Rum and cokes the bill came to less then 40 dollars a meal like this would have been over 80 back home. Pete picks us up and we head back to Tuskers we don't have many pictures of tuskers as they were all on the Ipad that was stolen at the J burg airport. Tomorrow starts Christine's part of the vacation But as she and I are laying in bed she tells me she wants to come back and she has started a list of the animals she wants me to try for. Maybe she did like the hunting. The next installment will have to wait till next week as I have to hang drywall and plaster at her daughters house that is 4 hours away this weekend. Wish me luck

Is this the Fish River Mouth ?

Have to agree, that is a scrawny pig.

Sad news about the iPad being stolen. Not to rub an old wound, but how did the crooks get it?

Don't work too hard this weekend.

Thanks for the great report! Looks to me like you had a fantastic hunt. You sure got yourself a beautiful kudu...too bad about the bushbuck!

Like yourself, I finally made the decision to go to Africa after the death of a friend. We always talked about it and after he was gone, I realized that it could just as easily been me, so I decided then that I was going to live out my dream. Congrats on a great hunt!

Not Sure my notes are at work I'm home packing the truck I'll check.
The Ipad was in the front pocket of her carry on bag they made us check our carry ons in cape town she was worried about a set of crystal Kudu horns she purchase and forgot to remove the Ipad when she took them out. the carry ons fit into there check stands but they said the flight was full and there was no more room for ours we get to the seats and there is room all over the place. they took them at the stairs and I watched them put them on so don't think it was Cape Town it was gone when we got our carry ons back at J burg.

No rush on the reply. Thanks for the effort in the report.
Life off the keyboard counts to. :)

That was a hard mistake.

Drive safe.

Congrats for a great hunt Bruce, nice trophies !

Sorry for the delay. Life got into the way. Now that I can move my arms again after Drywall and Plastering for a weekend here goes nothing. Christine tried to talk the cooks in coming down early so she could get Bacon and eggs before todays adventure started but no luck had toast and cold cuts and some of the best pineapple I've ever had. We drove to Kwuntu game reserve where we were going to do a game drive after checking in we were sitting in the lobby and a waiter came up to us and asked us if we wanted breakfast we declined as we had just eaten. well the manager came over and asked us why we didn't want to eat we tried to explain that we had already had breakfast but he insisted. As we were hurting the wait staff and cook feeling. We went in they had a complete buffet but no Bacon since the hotel is run by Muslims so no Bacon for Christine oh well they had 5 different types of sausage to ease her feelings. After eating we loaded up in a safari car there was one other couple they were from Grahamstown on there honey moon. The drive started off with the same animals we had seen hunting.

This herd of Blue wildebeest only had one calf in it the driver said that the lions had gotten all the rest of them.

we continued to drive around we saw 2 rinos and 1 elephant but hey were to far of to get any pictures of. we are being hampered by the cold wind s again today. Came around the corner and saw these waterbucks Christine already has them on the list for next time.

Christine commented how we saw more animals while hunting then we we're seeing on this game drive. We were heading back to the hotel when we spotted a lioness going into a bush so the driver Spins around the bush and this is what we see.

The cubs are 3 months old and they haven't seen them so the driver was really excited but he told us all to stay seated so the lions couldn't tell us from the truck. They were eating on a fresh Zebra kill. we were within 15 yards of them.
Headed back to the hotel where the driver was picking up some employees to go and see the lions.
we had Lunch then headed out to a elephant sanctuary Where rode and fed the elephants

Slept in this Morning our flight to Cape town isn't till 2 this afternoon. Had breakfast Christine finally got her Bacon and eggs. Said our good byes and tipped the staff. Loaded up the truck and headed out we dropped Erik off at the place where I shot my wildebeest as this is where he stays when Pete isn't hunting. Then on to Port Alfred Pete wanted to drop his rifles off so they wouldn't be in the truck at the airport with nobody around We met his wife and grand daughter both very nice people. Then headed out to East London for our flight on the way way stopped at a roads side dinner and shop to do a little shopping the furniture in this place was amazing but couldn't figure out how to ship it home. Got to East london airport Pete helped us check in and sign the gun in for the flight. Hint if you want anything to eat or drink do it before you go through security as there is nothing on the other side. Flight went good and we found our guide Jenny with no problem She tooks us on a tour of the coast line as it was almost sunset and she want us to see it. It clouded up just before the sunset so not much of one. she took us to our hotel and informed us we were her first clients staying there as it had just opened up 3 weeks prior. We checked in and were taken to our room what a surprise we had been up graded to a suite It had a changing room sitting room, office, a huge bathroom and a bedroom. We went out for seafood it was great again.

Enjoyed your report. We hunted with Pete the following week. By chance do you recall his last name or the name of the outfit that his boy is starting using fortd'acres as his base.
