If you were to play word association with the term "Iranian," what do you think most westerners would say? My guess is "Terrorist" would be either the top reply or near the top. Wouldn't it be nice if that changed? I am hopeful that it can. During World War 2, most Americans hated the Japanese because of Pearl Harbor and the vicious atrocities that occurred during the war. And yet, the US helped to rebuild Japan and a lasting friendship between our two nations was formed. Similar story with Germany and later, Vietnam. Maybe its going to take breaking Iran before we can get there.

Never in my lifetime did I think this would happen. We managed to get CCW. Now we don't have to pin stocks, weld muzzle brakes, M1 carbines aren't banned, and we can actually get mags with the same capacity as everyone else.

You are right, it is a terror state. All day long.

But war crimes are not the way to solve that problem.

Canadians understand that, we have a very large Iran exile community and, lest we forget, many of our diplomats and their team risked their lives helping smuggle American embassy staff out of Iran.

I’d concur. There are also a lot of innocent people in Iran who are just as much victims of the regime as anyone else.

I also don’t see a diplomatic path forward with the current regime. Any time we pump the brakes, they use the opportunity to further their agenda of destabilizing the region with the ultimate goal of destroying the West.

Long term the only solution will be a change in regime that comes from within and, therefore, self sustaining. Maybe that’s being worked on behind the scenes but I’ve not seen evidence of it.

I think the GOP lack of confidence in Hegseth is somewhat misdirected.

Here is the problem with Iran: It's the epicenter of the global radical Islamic caliphate. What people saying "turn Iran to glass" or "bomb the **** out of them till they're all gone" don't understand is this is a global caliphate built on decades of radical outreach and global terror.

Hezbollah, Hamas, PIJ, Houthis, Shia militias and the list goes on, all linked to Iran. Lets not forget you also have ISIL and AQI who have through back channels said they support Iran/IRGC. What do we think the reaction to leveling the country is going to be from them? It's going to be a massive, radical Jihad against western powers which is obviously us.

Are you then going to create another humanitarian and uncontrolled refugee immigration crisis like we did in Syria, Libya, and so on? We are great at nation destroying, not so much rebuilding. This is where Trump is caught between a rock, and no where. Do we go with the Syria model? Or do we keep doing what we've been doing with military muscle flexing, reach some toilet paper agreement, and let the next admin address it?

Trump right now I can surmise is very, very frustrated. Best case this is a kick the can down the road scenario. Any negotiations, accords, agreements, or whatever are just that. A piece of paper. You can send tier 1 elements in and steal the enriched material. Which would make Venezuela look like a cake walk. Give it 3-4 years and they'll be back to it again. With help from Russia and China.

This is a no-win. I am not saying the Iranian leadership and IRGC are good people. If we're talking them specifically, then yes, send them all to their higher power. The problem here is the Persians, as they really like to be called, are decent people living under an oppressive regime.

On a different subject I watched the Odyssey over the weekend. Before the movie came out the far right went on a tear about casting choices and there are tons of memes about Page being cast as Achilles etc., etc..

They were wrong about Page as he was cast as Sinon. Most of the people that were criticized by people for being DEI and woke casting also had very limited scenes in the movie. No hidden meanings there. Though Oscars requiring certain amount of diversity might have had an influence on casting choices in these minor roles that anyone could have filled.

The movie was about the journey of Odysseus trying to make his way home and politics in Ithaca. War of Troy was just a backstop.

Now that is out of the way here is what I think about the movie.

Go see it. It was very enjoyable, great acting and cinematography. I was glad that they used zero green screens and CGI. Everything that was on the screen were real people and puppetry instead of being digitally generated.

Interesting timing; my neighbor was just recommending this to me last night over a couple of drinks. I'll try to check it out.

Yeah it would be Iraq x 100. You would have 1000's, if not 100,000's of foreign fighters pouring in. With the way information is distributed now, word would spread in minutes of a body of US forces in country.

The only hope we really have is tier 1 elements combined with some limited traditional forces and support to do a quick in and out. Steal their enriched nuclear material, take out specific heads of state, or something to that effect.

Once again, this just kicks the can down the road.

I have close friends that were directly involved with this operation. If they had told me in 1996-1997 after all the wreckage and bodies were recovered. That this report may have any credibility at all. I wouldn’t respond here.

I have been assured by people that have no agenda, and I have 100% trust in. That the jet wreckage and passengers bodies showed zero evidence of a missile strike.

I don't buy into the final NTSB report. There is evidence and independent investigation that contradicts the report, as well as many eyewitness that saw flame trail streaking upward toward the plane.

Eyewitnesses and investigate reporters that were threatened, intimidated, and even arrested by the FBI.

I'll see if I can find the video of the private investigator that spent a considerable amount of time on the case.

What actual evidence other than tin foil capped "influencers" pushing their on line videos make these claims and with what actual evidence? These are the same people who claim the moon landing didn't happen (all six !?!), the CIA, Mossad, pick your agency blew up the Twin Towers, there was no airplane at the pentagon (I was there if you want to discuss that one), and Charlie Kirk's wife had him killed so she could take over TPUSA.

This breathless nonsense from Fitton and believe anything conspiratorial sources like Breitbart and its ilk simply encourages the gullible.

But let's see - a plane crashes off the coast and a terrorist group tries to claim credit at a time when militant Islam was in its ascendancy Wow, they would never do that without good reason. Must be true. Perhaps they co-opted the crew of an American warship to take it down for them?

But why not. After all, there was that North American blackout of 2003 that left nearly 60 million people without power and for which Al-Qaeda claimed credit. Must be true because they claimed it. Couldn't be due to the software failure discovered by a joint US Canadian investigation. Here in Texas we had the 2008 Texas City Refinery explosion for which Jihadist forums (sort of like Islamic conspiracy sites) claimed hidden cells were responsible for the "sabotage." There are literally dozens of incidents where various groups attempt to take credit for disasters. Any wonder the FBI awaits some sort of actual evidence before going off halfcocked. With the gullibility of their audiences, would that Breitbart and Fitton exercised some small amount of similar caution.
