"Obsolete" items that you still use

I'm almost never out in the bush without a traditional match safe in my pocket. Brass, nickel plated, waterproof lid, and filled with strike anywhere wooden matches. A butane lighter is more convenient and efficient, but matches will light in extreme cold, unlike a lighter that may fail when you need it most. And I prefer a paper map and compass to a GPS.

+1, only regret I have....my mind still things I can still do those same experiences, having survived, while my body says hell no, no way, forcing my mind to rethink the pain, the pain, aftermath of the outcome the body felt....for days or weeks later.
@Ridge Runner
The most dangerous thing an older man can do is think they are still a young person.

I take a lot of grief from my buddies about my Pennsylvania deer hunting apparel. I wear wool! Filson, Woolrich, Johnson Woolen Mills, Pendleton, Columbia, and my Stormy Kromer caps. They all wear the latest wonder plastics and I just sit back in my blind, warm and cozy in clothing ive had for 25 years or more. (im only 60) I expect my gear to outlive me. Gotta add my Schnees Extreme pac boots also, work great for the last 15 or so years.

Pain is just your bodies way of letting you know you are still alive. Never give up or give in. Pain is a mind over matter thing. If you don’t mind it don’t matter. Rock on RR!

Probably obsolete, a watch that has mechanical hands and only tells time, no date, no dials, no other furniture.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
