"Obsolete" items that you still use

Old cabin we used for hunting on summer island. Thats me at 15 inspecting my 99 savage inside the cabin. My father and grandfather showing off Snowshoe Hares shot for the pot. This was an adventure like out of the Sports Afield magazine for me. It is impossible to put in words how excited I was. Sadly in their Infinite wisdom the DNR burnt down the cabin. My father and grandfather are no longer with us. I miss them dearly. That was 52 years ago.

I have a couple of pocket watches that have passed down the family. There is an Omega that went to the Boer War in South Africa, and a gold Waltham that was the sole asset remaining after an earlier ancestor lost his fortune punting on horse racing.
Both watches have been fully restored and perform perfectly.

:unsure::unsure::unsure::unsure:.......

Is it me or have others also noticed a theme here?

Items that are considered obsolete are:
made back when, by people, and companies that believed in and produced quality items,
old,
still serviceable,
still functional well past their warranty,
and generally made before the throw away 1970's.

In terms of today's market it is cheaper to buy a replacement item than to have the broken item repaired. Warranties are meaningless with manufacturer loopholes so the manufacturer isn't required to repair or replace the item. Today's products don't last past their warranty to become obsolete; they are relegated to being just junk for the scrape yard or landfill.
You definitely got the theme. my Coleman lanterns are older than I am. You can still get replacement parts as NOS.

Like and Laugh......

Probably a good thing for you that she forgot her password.
Bad thing for you:
She can login and get a new password.
When she sees you posted her actual age and didn't compliment her on her youthfulness.
The dreaded: "The Look" when she sees your posts
You admitted in writing to looking at newer models, such a thing has been known to cause males to have multiple: Ahh, "in home accidents" requiring ER visits, hospitalizations, and in some instances an early funeral.
Well of course you are correct… but she is well aware of my shortcomings. We’ve lasted 45 years even working together so I’m not as concerned as I should be.. lulled into a false sense of security. You should know she is a crack shot so if someday I suddenly stop posting, ……

@Cucuy
Unfortunately they don't make good replacement parts for a 1958 model that has been highly abused and repairs were left until it just wasn't worth fixing.
Maybe should have looked after it better.
When I was younger WHS stood for work harder stupid NOT work health and safety.
Bob
Yeah Bob, me too, but then, it's been quite the party hasn't it?

I've used.mine to preheat the tent before turning in on cold weather hunting trips. Just shut it down before getting into the sleeping bag so you don't die of carbon monoxide!
Oh yes! The shut down fumes from Coleman lanterns!! Love em and have used both the lanterns and stoves fairly recently. Many fond memories… I remember, like yesterday, my nephew and I holed up, not leaving a broken down tent in Alaska storm for three days using Coleman lantern and stove for heat. Back when most bush pilots would carry white gas without a second thought. :)

If you would.....should your false sense of feelly good security come to a sudden cease of existence....Please ask your honey to inform us AH members so that we can offer our sincere condolences of her loss.

BTW Please include us (me) in your will to receive at least 3 of your fine Africa caliber firearms to toast and remember you by each time their is an opportunity to use them. LMAO.

I wouldn’t change one thing if I had to do it all over again!

I give a like...BUT....
Yeah, the only change I would make...is although I [WE] did a lot back then, we weren't suppose to live past 25 yo, .....I would have done 4x as much, 4x as fast, 4x as hard....and still say I wish I would have done more to justify my aches and pains.

@MS 9x56
Neither would i and no regrets either made me who and what I am today
Bob

+1, only regret I have....my mind still things I can still do those same experiences, having survived, while my body says hell no, no way, forcing my mind to rethink the pain, the pain, aftermath of the outcome the body felt....for days or weeks later.

I thought the Coleman brand fuel was safe and the white gas would asphyxiate you, no?

Well it's not really obsolete, but as others have mentioned, my HP-12C. I bought that calculator in college. I was in a Corporate Finance class and was using a Texas Instruments calculator and it took forever to arrive at the answer. Some chick had a 12C and was getting the answer in seconds, that was all to took for me to order one.
I was more of a HP 17BII man myself. It got me thr the CFP exam with no trouble.

Oh yes, there will be signs and signals. The first one is my firearms will be up for sale for what I told her I paid for them. So some REAL bargains coming on that day.
By the way, does a Blaser count as one or three....?

Pretty.much anything that burns puts out carbon monoxide I think. Anyway, that's what I've always believed and I'm still breathing air.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA
