Just saw where Bill Pulte of Pulte homes has announced they are now working on 50 year mortgages.....

A tax on people who are very bad at math.

Sadly, this is not unlike the current market on new car purchases.. dealerships offering 72, 84, even 96 month terms just to make the payment "affordable." The per month payment may seem better, but people wind up upside down on the vehicle quickly and find themselves in a negative spiral.

Apparently 8 dems in the senate are crossing over and will vote to end the government shutdown. The resolution will need to go back to the House for a vote.

The over/under for how quickly Trump rubs Shumer’s nose in it has initially opened at 6 hours. Probably because he’s asleep.

Im a little confused on this one ,I thought all bills originated in the house ,then went to the senate for squaring up and vote? At any rate Im glad they didnt cancel the filibuster rule because that is a definite two edged sword when dems regain control of senate.

I believe it’s all tax bills are supposed to come out of the house but that went out the window with Obama care coming out of the senate and later the Supreme Court concluded it was a tax.
I may be a little fuzzy on that though.

Much better are Lone Star doughnuts from Round Rock, Texas. Krispykreme tried to open in Round Rock and they lasted about a year before Lone Star put them out of business. Texas Monthly named Lone Star the best doughnuts in Texas. If you're not in line at the bakery before 6:00 am you're SOL for getting any.

A few weeks ago, I had a bunch of work going on at my house, so I decided to stop by the local doughnut shop and get a dozen for all the workers. I hadn’t bought doughnuts in years, even though I really like them. A dozen glazed doughnut set me back $11, darn near a dollar a doughnut. Crazy!

It's easy, you just need to keep track.

All spending bills originate in the House.

The House passed a bill way back in September. That bill went to the Senate.

It has been filibustered in the Senate. To break the filibuster, and to advance the bill, the Senate made some modifications to the House bill. When the Senate passes that modified bill (breaking the filibuster only means they agree to have a vote on the bill), the modified bill goes back to the House.

The House then has choices: agree to the modified bill. That goes to the President for signature. Let's ignore the veto possibility right now. Vote no on the modified bill. That puts us back where we are today (i.e. the Senate modified bill is not approved, and the Senate needs to try again). Modify the modified bill... which then goes back to the Senate, and we can hope that is not filibustered.

I think I have that right.

I’m thinking these 8 Democrat members voting with the Republicans was a well orchestrated off ramp.

The leadership told them to vote to end the shutdown. They are all in safe seats. Then leadership told everyone else to come out strongly against voting that way. So all but the 8 can tell their constituency they didn’t want to submit to the Republicans and they wanted to fight.

Schumer and Jeffries stay clean and get to say.
“ hey I wanted to keep fighting”.

Unfortunately for them it’s not working as planned. The Crocs are still going to eat their own.

Interesting to see reactions to costs of everyday items. Many of these price jumps took place during the early days of the Biden plandemic shutdown 4 1/2 years ago. Reflection of not paying attention or how some are dependent on others for shopping, paying bills and budgeting for everyday items.

It's been that way at my local store for about out a decade. It went from one company to another and overnight a regular cake doughnut was $.95. Something like a fritter was $1.45 or so. I went years without buying or eating a doughnut. Now if I do it's the day olds in the box.

John Stewart’s rant on the government shut down is worth a look. I think most of his points are spot on. Only his assertion that the political “ winds were at their backs “ stands out as being doubtful.

I think the point he’s missing, is that the shut down was always going to end this way. Humiliation for the Democrats, and nothing but pain for the American people. It was a bridge too far, andvshould never have been attempted.

Government shut downs are painful. People missed their flights because there are not enough air traffic controllers in the tower. Snap benefits don’t get paid to people who need them. In all sorts of ways, shut downs are painful, even (maybe especially) to the people who typically vote Democrat.

The biggest risk I see with government shutdowns is this:

The actual producers, those that legitimately pay taxes discover how irrelevant government is to their lives. The minor inconviences of having a minimal government were delightful. The impacts that I experienced that I could live without in exchange for 90% lower taxes included:

1.) I couldn't renew/obtain an FCC license for HAM radio or similar
2.) My USFWS permits are sitting idle and not reviewed for trophy import
3.) My copyright application sits idle for a published work
4.) Flight delays due to FAA slowdowns

The government's politicians should be very careful about future shutdowns. It's training us, the productive citizens to function without much of any government beyond a libertarian minimalist one.
