Politics

I’m not sure what exactly defines “going to shit” but for me it goes back to 2016 when Kaepernick staring taking a knee during the national anthem and started wearing BLM socks along with other black players wearing them and also taking a knee during the national anthem. I haven’t watched a game since then. Admittedly, I feel this way because of my background. Many could care less apparently.
While I don’t like them taking a knee at all. It doesn’t impact the play on the field which I why I watch. I don’t really care about their politics.

Wokeism and catering to that type of audience.
Ever watch an NFL draft and witness how much everyone detests the NFL commissioner?
Shitty half time shows with performers that none of us old schoolers want to see.

I could go on.......
I’ve never watched a football game for the halftime show or cared who the commissioner was or if anyone liked him. Nor have I turned one off because of the halftime show.

You’re missing some good football of your turning it off because of the halftime show.

You are not the demographic NFL, or any commercial enterprise, for that matter, is targeting. The percentage of angry old white men that buy anything being advertised is insignificant.
Not a surprising comment coming from you
My demographic made the NFL, along with the billions its raked in for decades because of people like me.

I can see how difficult it could be to support a "Get on your knees" organization when you are more of a "Raise your right hand" kind of person such as myself.

Some things are better in memory and the NFL is one of them- In my memory there is no team better than the 1985 Bears, or a better QBack than Sonny Jurgensen, Running Back better than Sweetness or a Linebacker better than Butkus. I suppose people that watch the game now will have their favorites, but give them 20 years and those favorites will be better than whoever was currently playing.

How long before the NFL starts parading around Twinks for a Superbowl halftime show?
I'm a Vikings fan. Born & raised.
In 2020 when teams were playing in empty stadiums during covid, the Vikings ownership brought the family of George Floyd into the game to honor a thug, and a scumbag. I came within 2 heartbeat's of dumping that team after 50+ years of being a fan. I will, if they do something like that again
Players like Jim Marshall, Ray Nitschke and Dick Butkus rolling over in their graves.

Again I don’t care what they do for halftime. It doesn’t impact the play on the field.

I think that is understandable and clearly most NFL viewers share your viewpoint. For me it is deeply personal, my background in the military and a career in law enforcement, at least for me anyways, gives me a different perspective. Not everyone even with similar experience even shares my viewpoint but all I can see are my dead comrades and an overwhelming sense of disgust and anger that it was better for me to stop watching, something that I have zero regrets over.

And I respect that.

That said. The moment of political statements during the anthem has pretty much passed. The vast majority of players stand respectfully on the sideline. Not saying you need to watch but just saying you might be pleased that most are being respectful.

How convenient

I quit watching when the players took a knee. As a veteran this crossed a line with me. I loved watching football but after I quit viewing I realized what an incredible waste of time and how unimportant it really was. I in no way denigrate any fan of the game for watching or enjoying this sport,I felt at one point in time that I needed to keep up every game and stat so that I could carry on a conversation the following week. For me life is much better and the weekends have so much more free time with this fad put behind me.

That’s refreshing to hear. There seems to be some pushback on some of the woke lunacy and politicizing professional sports, when fans really just want to watch athletes compete. Perhaps it had more do with the bottom dollar and profit, sports fans are not interested in watching politics mixed in their sports. In truth, around that time or soon after, I stopped watching professional sports entirely like basketball, baseball and hockey (excepts the UFC and boxing) although much of the lunacy like you mentioned has passed or been rejected except perhaps in the WNBA.

+1.

Hmmmm ............ :E Hmmm:

Putin's bungled gambit in Ukraine has resulted in a number of strategic failures including destruction of the Russian modernized ground forces, significant losses among all classes of aircraft including C3 assets, degradation of the Russian fleet, massive casualty lists, long term damage to the Russian economy, and opening the door for Swedish and Finish membership in NATO. A less obvious, but perhaps even more dangerous obstacle to future Russian ambitions is the reawakening of NATO and particularly German military power.

This is a clip of the recent change of command ceremony for the 1st Armored Division. The band plays the "Panzer Lied" (the Tank Song). Other than in a couple of guesthouses following drive hunts back in the seventies when men in their fifties and sixties would sometimes sing it to a liter or two of beer, it is a march that I have only heard on recordings because it was the anthem of the Wehrmacht panzer formations of WWII. I hasten to add, this was not, like the "Horst Wessel," a Nazi song per se, but was one of the era's songs that was not performed by the military for many years.

The anthem was written by Oberleutnant (First Lieutenant) Kurt Wiehle in 1933.

The original Lyrics in English. The modern German tank forces apparently are not allowed to perform the second and third verses.

In rain storm or snow or in sun's laughing light,
In day's scorching heat or in bitter cold night,
Our faces covered with the dust
But hearts with joy are filled (Yes, joy are filled),
Our panzers like whirlwinds advance in the field.

With thundering engine and lightening fast speed
We charge toward the front on our steel sided steed,
And leading on our comrades
In the fight alone we stand,
We break through the ranks of the foe's hostile band.

When foes may appear with their tanks in our sight,
We step on the throttle and race toward the fight.
What value then has life for us?
We serve the Reich's army,
Our life's highest honor we give Germany.

With trenches and mines the foe seeks to impede,
We laugh in derision and pay him no heed,
And when he trains his guns on us
Emplaced in yellow sand
We find other ways that the foe had not planned.

And when fickle luck will desert us at last
Then comforts of home are but memories past,
And when the fatal bullet strikes us
Then no one can save
Our panzer will be our glorious grave.

It will be an interesting result of the war if one of Putin's lasting accomplishment is to have single handedly resurrected German military power.

I respectfully disagree, a majority of angry old white men buy and drink beer (except bud light) and and I understand there’s lots of beer commercials during football games. I stop watching the NFL, when some a-hole from Arkansas bought America’s team and f’ed it up. Just going on what the rest of the angry old men tell me about the ads.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
