Hunting in Europe

@mark-hunter, I should have been more specific. So I’ll just ask things one at at time. How is the deer hunting over in Europe? This can be for any deer, but what is it like hunting Fallow deer?
I am sure @mark-hunter will offer his views shortly, but fallow opportunities in Europe are very much like the states. Free range or on large estates, they can be a challenging experience. On limited ground, they quickly become habituated to humans and you are simply shooting your designated animal.

This is a fabulous experience I had in Austria for both an excellent fallow stag and a wild boar.

This was a cool story and it sounds like a great hunt.

First post on AH.com. So still learning how to navigate the site. This discussion is timely though, as I have been trying to find more info about hunting in England. Next May my wife and I will be traveling to London to visit family for 1.5 weeks and she said I could escape to hunt for 2-3 days. Any recommended threads to begin with to dip my toe in research? Or individuals to reach out to on AH? Looking to do something within a budget and within England, potentially Roe Deer outside London? Thank you- Owen Feenstra

I don't know what your budget is. I have a couple of agents I have booked hunts with here in Europe.

Jonas Jagd is Austrian, he has hunts in Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Norway, United Kingdom, Spain and a few others.

I have hunted with a couple other guys, but I recommend him primarily as he always delivers. A lot of other hunts I have arranged through other agents have been ok.

https://jonas-jagd.com/. He speaks perfect English and will be in the US Hunting on western draw hunts in October and November.

Call the Hunting Consortium. They have connections across Europe (and everywhere else), and I am certain they could set you up with a hunt. https://huntingconsortium.com/ I have used them several times when going to new areas in Europe.

If you use the search function there are several threads on this. You can also feel free to drop me a PM and I can give some pointers.

It is also possible in Poland to hunt bison.

Everything I've heard is the Polish government stopped issuing permits for last few years. Have they had a change of heart?
Belarus still has free range wisent to hunt, and estate options exist in several countries. I shot mine in Sweden.

Take a look at “The Stalking Directory “ a U.K. based web forum. Plenty of opportunities offered there.

I’ve been to Spain twice with Corju hunting. First trip was becetie ibex second was 2 trophy roe deer. Took my wife and saw the sights for a week as the hunt is only 3 days. Definitely one of my most favorite trips we have done.

Whitetail in Finland would be kinda cool.
Shoot a deer then take a tour of the plant in Riihimaki.

I've looked at a few European trips.
One in the Austrian Alps above Salzburg for Red Stag. Hunting in the Alps sounds incredible.

Poland, Hungary and Romania have a lot of intrigue to me also.

Anyone done a cast and blast in Europe?
A few days hunting and a few days in a trout stream would make a great trip.

@Duckhunter3000

I made long post about all 4 species of deer in Croatia. But I was working on slow wi fi connection, in hotel (as I am travelling to work, waiting now for next connection).
When I added pictures, total post was messed up. I asked moderator Brickburn to clean up, so the only photo remaining was from that fallow.
Once I get better connection, I will make post again.

I've been living in Romania for almost two years and have done a lot of hunting here. Hunted Roe deer several times, as well as pheasant, and was successful on a Red Stag, Chamois, and Bear hunt.

Hunting Roe deer was a combination of high stand hunting and spot and stalking (which I always enjoy). It didn't require much physical exertion and was really enjoyable.

Pheasant hunting was similar to what I have done in the U.S., either walking up birds or waiting for those who are walking up birds to flush them towards the shooters waiting down the field.

The Red Stag hunt could have required a lot of physical exertion. It depends on the country and terrain you are hunting, but I was VERY fortunate to get a beautiful bull on my first day and we were hunting in gently rolling hills.

Chamois kicked my butt. It was a 13 hour climb up and back down the mountain. It was BEAUTIFUL, but I was completely spent at the end of it. It was also a quick hunt decision and I didn't have time to get in shape for it. It was absolutely worth it, but I don't know that I could do it again unless I had 6 months to really get my butt in shape for the steep hike.

Bear is straight forward. Sit in a stand all night and wait for the bear ro come to bait. I again got lucky, as nothing shootable had appeared in three days. We decided to spot and stalk and that's when I got my bear.

When you are talking about hunting in Europe, need to start with:
• Carpathian red stag one of the biggest species of deers.
• roebuck the most representative and well spread across the continent.
• biggest species of wild boar
• diferent species of Chamois
• diferent species of Ibex
• mouflon etc
• brown bear, etc
From this list you can choose and find the best places according with your own preferences.

Here are a couple of photos from Europe:

Wild Boar: Italy

I have also taken roe deer in Italy, Romania and England. Some of my most memorable trips have been driven and rough shooting for pheasant and partridge.

Wow, that’s a huge list of game. I heard about the bear situation in Romania and how they opened the season back up.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx
