The only thing I've ever hunted with a 303 British has been whitetail deer in the southeastern USA. A Ruger No. 1A chambered for that round is a really good choice for the hunting I do. I use a Hornady 150gr InterLock SP & every deer I've shot with one has died with minimal tracking.

The last deer I took with it was when I was a guest on a friend's lease. I passed on taking a shot at a really nice buck & opted to cull one of the does at 144 meters just to put some venison in the freezer. It's one of my favorite combos to hunt with.

Last month, before the OP joined these forums, @Badboymelvin posted a similar thread where he was going to try to use his 303 British as well.

Well, I missed a whitetail from 5’ away, I was shaking that hard. No. 4 Mk 1. First ever shot on a deer, well in my 30’s.

I have a Sarasqueta (impressive build quality) sxs sidelock in .303, have taken it up the mountain for whitetail, only had one opportunity but the buck was in thick brush, it was absolutely pissing and I wear glasses.

Didnt have confidence in the shot. Didn’t take it. Hold the phone, come next rifle season…

A lot... 308 is my "go-to" cartridge for pretty much everything it is suitable for..

bobcats
probably a dozen or more species of plains game...

edited to add: I misread the title.. I thought it said "308" rather than 303.. my mistake..

I had an old "sporter" Lee Enfield probably 35 years ago that I used to take a single whitetail deer with... other than that I just punched a lot of paper with it at the range...

From memory it was a mixture of factory 174 grain softs and the heavy Woodleigh softs.

Deer , hogs, nilgia, 180gr Remington cor-lok , good for maximum range of 200 yards with 1 1/2 inch high POI @ 100 ( tiny government issued original scope)
Oh forgot I shot a giant feral goat with 150gr federal power shock , Remington ammunition was much easier to get so I went back to it

Lost count of the number of pigs,goats, rabbits and foxes. I know I burnt my first barrel out shooting game and having fun.
Mainly 135 gn hand loaded Tipans made by Malcolm Bone.
Lots of enjoyment.

Just took the 303 barrel of my SMLE and put a big standard 25-303 barrel on it cut to 22".
