Brockman .458 Lott?

Oh, and by the way, you are my new hero!

You go to Zim for Buff and Hippo, back a few weeks and buy a Brockman customized Lott...and you are going for PG in RSA next May.

I need to take a few lessons from you!

So much I could write here....

To boil it down it amounts to my realizing I will only live once and I'd better do it while I can (whether it makes financial sense or not), plus having a very understanding and loving wife! My cousin said, "In 20 years I know I won't regreat going to Africa again, but I know that if I don't go that I will regreat that in 20 years." This was said earlier this week as we talked about a 2018 hunt, which will be trip number four for him.

I'm blessed. It is as simple as that really. :)

Ok, the Lott is on the way!!! I'm SO excited!

I'm hoping that I can pick it up next week, but may not have time until after my CO elk hunt that I leave for on Thursday. Oh darn....

You mean your not going to shoot the elk with it???? I'm disappointed for you Royal.:(

I'm not even taking my medium bore. Just my Itty bitty 30/o6. :)

I'm sure that will do it. You know now we are going to need pictures of the elk and the 30 06 AND you shooting the Lott..... well you may as well make that video of you shooting the Lott!

Good luck on the elk hunt my friend!

I feel sooooo sorry for you!

I am going to use you as an example of why Kathy should never again feel like I spend too much time thinking about hunting or spending too much money on guns!

Thanks!

The best part about the elk hunt is that it will be a family hunt with my uncle and two cousins. The place we go (near Durango) is a place my grandfather started hunting in the early 1960s. Honestly, the hunting there isn't that good anymore, but the memoeries are priceless!

Nancy will supprt that.... LOL

I still don't think I will be able to pick up the rifle until after CO, but I did get a box in the mail today. :)

Bump...

Still wondering if anyone knows about Brockman. The fact this rifle has been for sale for so long concerns me a little, but I keep going back and looking at it....

Here is a post I found from field and stream on him, I don't believe most I read on the Internet, butimage.jpg

That's what I decided. Rifle on way!
Sweet! Let us know how it is, looks like a hell of a goodie box to feed it! Congrats

Thanks! Report coming as soon as I can get it outside.

re: the Brockman rant...two sides (at least) to every story!

Royal, those boolits look awfully big! They are definitely going to push back at you! :)

Reminds me of when I used to shoot 500gr Hornady at 1,800 fps from a 7.25 pound Ruger No. 1!!! Uffffffaaaaa

100% agree with ya! Always at least two! Lol

It is a step up for sure! I seem to like being pushed around though, so this should be perfect! LOL

It is funny that three years ago I thought a .375 H&H was a big hard hitter.

Yeah, it's all about learning how to cheat.

Sitting up straight with the rifle butt fully on your shoulder to spread the recoil...maybe adding ballast in the form of a half dozen cartridges in one of those elastic shell holder on the butt thingys....maybe a half inch thick piece of closed-cell sleeping pad on your shoulder.

I hear about guys doing stuff like that. Not that I would ever do such things. :p

I have ZERO pride when it come to recoil! I don't consider myself to be overly sensitive, but I own a PAST pad and use it when I need it, usually off the bench.

I will make sure the fit is good and will put a cheek pad on it if I need to. I'm really not concerned about being able to handle it and will just build up the number of rounds I can shoot.

I also need to find a place around here to go pig huntimg!

OK, so I'm in the woods right now and FINALLY got a chance to shoot the Lott. We have a no target practice during deer season rule, which I will respect. I didn't think that ONE shot constituted practice though. ;)

So I would call this initial impressions rather than a range report.

My one shot impression was that the .470 NE double rifle that I shot early this year hit back harder, especially on my cheek. I'm sure this is due to fit. This surprised me a bit as the Lott weighs 1.5 lb less than the Krieghoff did. I knew I had pulled the trigger, but I was really expecting a harder thump. I was shooting Hornady 500 grain DGX that came with the rifle. So at least in theory 2300 fps.

I hit about three inches right of my intent at about 30 yards. I'm sure that what I will find out is that I had some anticipation and yanked it. I will freely admit that if I haven't shot in a month or more I tend to pull my first shot a bit, even with my .30/06.

I'm sure that I will need to build up to shooting a box of shells, but dang that was fun!!!

@matt85 , I'm ready to shoot your .505 Gibbs!!! :)
