If money was no issue......what about a 500 No.2 NE....
Massive strong case 3 1/2 inches long with a 570gr .510 bullet or even a 600gr @ 2200fps....a elephant hunters dream caliber.....

Here’s an interesting one that kind of sort of touches on that idea.

Edit: On second thought I guess it is pretty different. Too much caffeine today lol

But who needs one..as long as .577 and .600NE exist..?

Weight and penetration.....

The difference between .500NE at 2150fps and the suggested .500No.2 at 2200fps penetration wise cannot be much..?

With a 600 grain bullet?? You may want to reconsider.....

I see your point..but do 30 grains more weight really matter much..?

In theory, such a cartridge already exists in the form of the .700/500 NE Rafiki that was made for Rafik Hariri. I stand to be corrected, but just the one has been made thus far. A friend who had a friend that worked at Westley Richards at the time was told that it was sheer murder to regulate. The big, bottlenecked cartridge created massive backthrust and tore up more than one action before the regulation (and redesign!) of the biggest of the big droplock actions were completed.

Are you suggesting a .50 caliber on the 450No2 case ?

There is a .475 No2 & that was a great cartridge but not too far from the .450.

I think that sounds interesting actually, pity it wasn't built, nice thick rim on it !
One of the problems of the .500NE if reloading is getting the lube just right, too much oil dents all over, not quite enough & the bloody rim pulls off !

Wonder why they didn't do a .500 on the 450-475No2 case ?

I had a .577/500 & it was a fun gun, not sure if they made a Nitro on that ?

No, not a black powder round, a modern round designed and made for a former (assassinated) Prime Minister of Lebanon.

No that was cross purposes, I was just mentioning I had a rifle in .577/500 BPE & wasn't sure on the longer cased .577/500 Magnum or if there was a .577/500NE .

I thought you meant building a .500-.510 on the 450No2 or 475No2 cases, which I thought a great idea & wondered why they did not.

Here is a .475No2 (same as 450No2 just bigger bullet) & a 500NE 3in .

Look at that beautiful big case & great thick rim !!

I suppose the down side now days is getting the bloody cases to start, hard enough getting normal .500NE & 450NE ?

This cartridge would be a very good modern alternative.

Sarg, I like where you are going that 475 No.2 blown up to take 500NE bullets and then 600gr ticks all the boxes.
Low pressure and lot of oomph behind a 600gr bullet.

Ivan, think Sarg has a good idea to start with the 475 no.2 Case.

700 case no good....

Strongest case designed specifically for modern powder....the 475 No. 2 was made off it when 450 cal was banned....

The 475 no.2 is made from the 450 no.2 so in essence the same thing

Just come visit BASA Saturday and shoot your frustations out on the range.
You don't even have to hand in your scorecard just come shoot.

They wont allow me to shoot 3 different calibers on one course....
On lion charge in open terrain you drop down in one knee.....wait and then drop it with one shot....
Convince them to allow shooters to do it the way it should be done in a true senario and I can join....until then nope....I dont need wrong muscle memory....

May come through for a beer though? Where is it Swartkops?

Is this rifle sold? If not what is the weight of it and do you know if there is enough difference in diameter between the 35W and the 9.3 to allow for a rebore to a 9.3x62 which is what I am after?
Thanks,
Gary (Just down the road in Springfield)

Forgive me if this is the incorrect area, I signed up to this forum just now because I wanted to be on the list to purchase a copy of your autobiography. Please feel free to pass my information along to whomever is selling. Thank you so much. I look forward to it!
I like the Tillie in my picture. They are supposed to fit loose (2 fingers inside hat band), have mesh for cooling, and hold their shape after washing.
