I'll start, and it's ok if this post goes on a little past March 8th. Here is the only 308 Winchester rifle that I own; a Heym 98 with a full length Stutzen style stock and Leupold Vari-X II 3-9x scope.

I love my 308 Ruger Scout. My brother, a 9 year old and a 13 year old friend all shot a bear with it. My 16 year old adopted son shot his first 2 bears with it. I shot 2 bears with it. Often it wears a suppressor. I didn't like the scout scope setup so I mount a traditional 2-7 Leopold on it. The stock just feels really good. I've thought many times if I didn't hunt grizzlies I could do all my hunting with just that little Scout rifle. It's easy to carry and very accurate.

I have a bunch of 308’s, this is a sexy little Sako 85. Nice little rifle, wish I had a picture of my browning safari, it is beautiful.

Steyr SSG69 .308 just before it dropped a Beceite Ibex at 250 meters.

A day late... but.. since I do about 90% of all of my big game hunting with a .308 I figured I have to play... :)

Ive got 4 308's in the safe at the moment... my favorite is a Kimber Adirondak with a swaro Z3 optic on it.. the gun is a whopping 4 lbs 13oz bare... loaded, with the optic, rings, mounts, etc.. she comes in right at 6lbs 3oz and is an absolute joy to carry (it can light you up upon trigger squeeze though lol).. it has LASER like accuracy with barnes ttsx handloads.. and is fairly impervious to weather (super low maintenance)..

A close runner up is my Rem 600 Mohawk in 308.. No pic available at this time.. I just sent the barreled action off to be threaded about a week ago so that I can mount a suppressor to it.. Its a tack driver with the same barnes handloads.. and features several of the same benefits as the Adirondak (compact, lightweight package, etc).. its had several upgrades.. timney trigger, bell and carlson kevlar stock, rib removed, threaded barrel (soon) etc... I'd guess it comes in maybe 6oz heavier than the kimber.. its certainly several oz under 7lbs when loaded with the optic, rings, mount, etc ...

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
